Hello folks, I recently got a used 2009 EZG, the power tubes on it(GT 6L6GEs rated at 5) seems very old even the plate current is so cold at about 23mA each, definitely needs retube. My question is can I put some KT66s in it? How will KT66s sounds in EZG, if anyone here have ever tried that?
And a sad story here: I just have a pair of "BRAND NEW" GT6L6GE rated at 4, which is bought ten years agao and since then, I want a EZG50. So I bought this tubes and waiting to get touch to the EZG. Can't image the waiting is so long, it's long enough for me to graduated from college, find work, and even married. yesterday I find this pair of 6L6 just new in box as it always does in past ten years. I poen it, Then one of tube is fell to the ground and broke I just can't believe my eyes!!!
It doesn't really worth much, but when you saving a thing for ten years just for a clear purpose, and you stupid broke it at the using point, that feels really baaaaad....

That sounds like something I would do also. I generally keep things around for a while also. I'd like to hear about the KT66's working in EZG also. I just got one myself and am exploring it and learning about it.

One of my favorite modern tubes- really, the only modern EL34 variant I have ever liked much- (a GT6CA7-GE) fell and broke- and that was shortly after GT stopped making them. Thankfully, GT still makes these, but it’s still a tragedy. I’ll probably make an SE amp using the remaining one at some point.

I believe it does not have much life though. I have read somewhere that the KT66 has slightly more Heater current, cause little heavier load on the PT, also some rebias things sure. Doese someone experienced here know that anything else to pay attention to if I put KT66s in it?

So you want to using the remaining one as a single ended Class-A? seems a pretty good idea
