Just curious what everyone tends to prefer on their input selection. I find that I mainly use the low input but curious to hear some responses. Just figured I would wake Shake the dust off the Db4 section with a nice poll.

My general philosophy is to get as much volume and gain as you can from an amp, and control it with the guitar. It's easy to roll down to cut.
Plugging into Lo input sort of lowers the ceiling automatically. I'd rather have full range going into an amp.
One possible exception to this may be a low wattage amp with humbuckers. If you want as much clean as you can get, then maybe your backs against the wall. Maybe.
The DB-4 doesn't have that issue though.
Purely my opinion.
Lastly, the Golden rule always applies...if it sounds good it IS good.

I prefer the high input. Just sounds right with humbuckers and P90s for me.

I have literally never used the low input on any amp for over 50 years now. What’s it even for?
jj
who would not want as much range as possible from your amp? I thought that’s why guitars have volume knobs.

Generally high on the brown Fenders, low on the blackface. The Zs only have one.

Only time I have is by mistake. When I started trouble shooting where my gain went, I found it.

I recently acquired a DB-4 and much prefer the low input. I usually never use the low input on any amp but this one has a sweetness to it. I play a Strat but YMMV
