I really wanna add a Marshall style amp to the studio. And I know there's tons of brands out there like Friedman and Metro that make Marshall style amps, but the EMS seems to be the only one that really hits every era of Marshall tones! But, at 50 watts, non master volume, would it be a good studio amp? I guess I can't REALLY be too concerned considering I just finished a session using a 60 watt Boogie and a 50 watt Orange at full volume. But I also know that Z watts are usually louder than other amps of the same wattage lol. I love this company and this community, so furthering the Z empire would be nice too

I previously owned a Divided by 13 AMW39 and I sold it because it was too noisy and too bassy. Being in need of a new M Style med-high gainer, I played just about any M Style amp I could get my hands on.
The EMS was first on my list, and I will be honest, immediately I wasn't exactly floored by it. But stay with me here.
The short list of other amps I played: Carol Ann Revo, Carol Ann Triptik, Carol Ann Tucana, Friedman Small Box, 3rd Power Citizen Gain, Mesa TC50, Metroplex, Komet Concorde, Komet Aero, TopHat Emplexador, Diezel Big Max, Fargen Olde 800, I could go on. The Revo is an awesome amp, and a Komet is still on my bucket list, but, again, something was missing from the above amps. Plus, I really didn't want a channel switcher like some of the ones mentioned either.
I came back to the EMS, and like magic, there it was. EXACTLY what I wanted. It was like I needed to experience other builders takes on M Style to truly appreciate what Doc is bringing to the table with the EMS. I actually felt embarrassed that I wasted all of that time searching. I should have just followed Doctor's orders.
The amp does have a Master. Gain = Volume and Volume = Master. But, like with all of Doc's amps, you're gonna wanna open it up. If you need M tones, don't even waste your time looking elsewhere. 60's through 90's tones are covered, and the amp loves to be pushed with a TS9 or SD1. if you don't need to do the chugga chugga stuff the kids are into these days, you will be covered.

I have a new EMS and I am totally digging it. I am enjoying the very seasoned cleans and I certainly like the natural OD tones. The SD-1 didn't light my fire, but the Gain Changer took me where I wanted to go. I can use that amp anywhere, it sounds good at low volume. I haven't had a chance to crank it up with exception to running it through the Power Station. This is the amp that I wanted to build as a workhorse, I learned that it is cheaper to buy what you want rather than try to recreate it from scratch. But I do not regret the knowledge I gained from building like a mad scientist. I am really happy with my EMS, I am running it through a Cream Alnico, and a 2 x 12 Greenback cabinet.

I love my EMS, its actually my current bedroom amp. The volume and gain controls work great together to get the amount of overdrive I and the volume I want. Dont forget the high/low inputs either. They can really change the amp sound a lot . . . . oh and yes, don't forget the tube or solid state rectifier switch . . . . and . . . . . . really versatile amp!! Todd

... if you don't need to do the chugga chugga stuff the kids are into these days, you will be covered. From Dave Baker's high gain demo of the amp, seems like the amp could definitely do the chugga chugga stuff, especially in the JCM 800 mode and if pushed with hotter pickups or an overdrive! Seems like a super versatile amp. I know a lot of heavier bands that use pushed JCM 800's. I'd love to get my hands on an EMS!
