Since this thread popped up again, just want to say I also really like the Z12 and have had it for a number of years now. Sounds great with my Maz 38 Sr, Jaz 20/40 and even my Mesa JP-2C with cleans and full on distortion. The Z12 is in an older Dr Z 1x12 shorty cab right now. The cab is nice and portable so I take that cab and the Mesa head to band practice and it sounds great playing our 80s rock tunes. A very versatile speaker.

I just loaded my maz 18 nr mrk 2 with eminence gb128...its way different than g12h anni obviously...how close is the z12 to gb128...besides Z's doping and his specs...are they that far apart?... gb 128 brit / Z 12 american voiced.... I think I recall Doc saying he modeled the Z-12 on a mid-1960's Oxford, or at least he was influenced by that speaker. So that would make the the Z-12 having an American voicing, although somewhat different than a Jensen. I actually have an original Oxford in a 1965 Ampeg amp and I hear the similarities. I'm considering replacing it with a Z-12 in order to preserve that vintage speaker.
