Question from Denmark (without any Muhammed content).
I have an almost new reverb MAZ Jr. 1x12 (red Tone Tubby H1E), which I bought SEP05 from Pro Guitar in Germany.
I have had very hard times controling the low bottom when cranked up. The punch of the MAZ is also much lower than I did expect and the headroom as well. I have tried other pre-amp tubes and power tubes to make it behave....but no...
Today (suddenly) I realized that the German dealer (Pro Guitar) did install a 16-ohm speaker instead of the 8-ohm I thought I did order. The dealer suggest that I just buy a new 8-ohm TT (+300 Euros retail price). He claims that he installed a 16-ohm TT to make the amp break-up at lower volume (is sure does) at to make it creamy (it is). BUT, comparred to a stock celestion G12H (8-ohm) the 16-ohm TT seems to be much too loose in the bottom and far to nasal in the mids when really cranked up. The celestion seems to make the amp much livelier and responsive, and it handles a distorted amp much better.
The hint is: Be careful about the speaker impedance. At least, I now have a Tone Tubby (16 ohm) for sale, as the dealer neglects to swap it with an 8-ohm!!! This is customer service in Europe. I hate my self for not noticing the mistake when I received the amp.
Now to some questions: Is it risky in terms of power tube life or output transformer life to run the amp cranked-up with the 16-ohm load instead of 8 (or 4)
Will a TT-8 ohm solve my problem or is the celestion the way to go??? I like a silky top, punchy mids and a tight bass respons. HELP!!!
