I'm looking for a new amp something with a great base tone that I can enhance with pedals. My band does everything from clean to 80's rock. My question is will the ezg do this and if so what pedal would you recommend for that hot rodded marshall tone? I use a strat and tele mostly. The other options are a maz 18 and jaz 20/40 I've had both in the past so already familiar with those amps.

Have you listened to the EMS? 60s, 70s, and 80s Marshall sounds in there. Might be worth listening to.

EZG is a great pedal platform--but it's a beastly powerful amp, too (if trying to keep a lower volume is an issue). Still sounds great with the volume knobs lower, but yeah you'll need those pedals for overdrive/distortion.
Hot-rodded Marshall tone? Some great modded-late-Plexi-era pedals are the J. Rockett Animal (I have one, it's great), Carl Martin Plexitone (the big one, or the "single") and maybe the Catalinbread DLS. [These are all Plexi-specific pedals, not earlier JTM or '80s JCM.]

Yeah they sound great but I'm looking second hand. They are starting to show up second hand - saw one for $1,399 the other day.

I'm using a King of Tone, which I think is kind of a Marshall sound with the EZG. I also have used the RYRA Klone, Barber 1/2 Gainer and Gain Changer, which all sound really good with the EZG.
The EZG clean is great. It sounds really good with most overdrive pedals. The EZG has a lot of bass. It took me a little while to dial it in the way I like it. Dr Z 10" speakers are a great match for the EZG.

Highly recommend the Wampler Velvet Fuzz. The "tight" setting will get that Marshall tone bang on. Second choice would be the Wampler Pinnacle Deluxe V2, although it seemed a little bright to my ear. Third choice would be a good old Fulltone OCD--cheap and easy to find used.

I have to say--I traded my EZG for a really great guitar, but of all the amps that have come and gone from my guitar room, I think I regret its passing the most. Toward the end I was running it with a 1x15 Mather cab and it was glorious--just too much amp for the venues we play.

I have an ezg and it takes pedals really great. I’ve never really concentrated on marshal style drive vs others but I’ve had great success stacking overdrives lately. I’m running a Mythos daedelus (bluesbreaker) into a Mythos Herculean (tubescreamer) and it sounds great. I always have yet to find an overdrive I like better for humbucker a than a zendrive. Overall I’d be confident the ezg would be able to give you the tones and volume you need. Plus, you have GREAT clean tones available.
I keep telling myself I have to plug my z drive into the ezg again because it seems like that pedal should be tailor made for the ezg and should be able to cop any tones id want.

I have an EZG and I’m using an Origin Fx Revival Drive Custom and a Wampler Tumnus Deluxe: with these 2 pedals the EZG really BECOMES an old Marshall crancked...and I mean it...😉

I absolutely love the EZG as a clean pedal platform. Overall, I’d say the many available amp in a box style pedals will give you great results. Here’s some of the ones that I’ve tried and dig with it.
Menatones... The King(Marshall) TBIAC(Vox) Dirty Blonde(fender)
Bearfoot FX... HBOD(supro/tweed) Silver Bee(silverface) Model G(gibson) Dyna Red(Marshall) EGOD(vox)
Friedman Dirty Shirley(Marshall)
RambleFX (marshall)

I think a lot of drive pedals sound great through the EZG, I've used the Wampler Tumnus Deluxe, the Fulltone OCD, the Voodoo Lab Sparkle Drive Mod, The Wampler Dual Fusion, The Ibanez Tube Screamer, and the Fulltone FullDrive 2 Mosfet. They all sound great and have their place. This amp is so clean and has so much headroom, it makes anything sound good, seriously.
