Thank you. I’ll try the 18v next.

I got mine yesterday and I'm really glad you started this thread, Frank...This thing really is very, very good. I've got a lot of experimenting to do but it's hard to get a bad sound out of this box of wonder. So far what amazes me is the amount of gain I can get without all the hiss and noise that usually accompanies gain. Really cool. I've also got to try running 18 volts too, but it's hard to imagine it being better than it already is. It's really that good.

I agree with Dave. Like a locomotive in a small box. I'm keeping mine!

Yessir, I think this one is going to go down as one of the all time greats. Up there with the venerable SD1, TS9, KoT, Klon, etc.

Would you guys cut it out, please (I do not need another pedal, I do not need another pedal, ...)

Would you guys cut it out, please (I do not need another pedal, I do not need another pedal, ...) Mike, I hate to throw gasoline on the fire, but I just tried the KODA and the Ethos TWE-1 with the Mazerati LE & 2x12 cab. It sounds absolutely glorious. They're both amazing pedals, and I think I may be thinning out my pedal board and (gasp) selling some drive pedals in the future. And the Mazerati LE just eats them up and asks for more.
Sorry.

I had bought a brand new yellow plug a while back along with a Monte Allums mod kit. I haven't touched either one yet, but I have a capacitor kit, and some sort of stacked gain mod. I don't know much about the pedal other that it is a good structure to mod if you are into that kind of thing.

Picture this, a TS9 is like pouring your signal into a funnel, an SD1 is like feeding your signal into a fire hose. It's meaner and raspier, and tightens up the bass frequencies without choking or congesting your tone. A JCM800 amp pushed by an SD1 gives you all the gain you could ever need (unless you're in Meshuggah).

I gave the SD-1 a shot, but it didn't keep up with the Gain Changer used under identical settings. It just feels like a pedal that was once good but needs a tune up, which is what I am going to do. I'll do my own SD-1 before and after video.

It's got two switches, and if I remember right it changes from symmetrical to asymmetrical clipping, (and maybe puts a pair of LED's in on one position?) and the other switch goes from low to high gain...I'll have to pull it out and open it up to see what's in there. It's a cool mod, look forward to your before and after video.

Update - Komet now has a fix for the issue that involves replacing two bias resistors and a cap. They will repair and send back to you quickly. Hogey from Komet does not recommend trying it yourself as the parts are impossibly small and risky to operate on without the proper tools. I decided to keep mine and run it at 18V and have another one in the mail to run at 9V (yeah, I like it that much). Won't use them together of course, although that will be an experiment for sure. One great pedal for sure!

Anybody else try 18V?

I've been running at 12v, and the harmonics really seem to jump out way more compared to 9v. I can only imagine what 18v does.

Yeah, this KODA is a great find Frank. I’ve never been a big OD pedal person, especially solid state. My go-to for dirt is the Effectrode Tube Drive, and although I love it it’s not practical for use outside of the house. You can do it, but it’s expensive and heartbreaking to replace when you damage it. Anyway, the KODA sounds awesome and covers so much ground it’s crazy. And built like a brick shithouse. My second one arrives tomorrow. Man, I sound like Dave...

My second one arrives tomorrow. Is a dealer stocking them, or direct from Komet? Thanks.

The second one is coming direct from Komet. Midwood Guitar Studio and Eddie's Guitars has them in stock.

Hogy from Komet sent an update on running the Koda at higher voltages: don’t exceed 12V as some of the tiny resistors are only rated for 16V, so no 18V operation.

I have contacted Komet about my pedal and they responded immediately, asking me to return it, so they could fix it for me. Mike's response was great. I look forward to getting it back. At least I have some nice stuff to play with in the meantime.

Yeah, Komet’s CS is great. Nothing but good things to say about them. Still amazed by this pedal.
