I've have the new style Barber compact DD for quite a while. It's a great MIAB type pedal. Actually the best one I've had so far. It's super flexible and does everything from old school plexi to shred. I like it so much that I was gonna buy a second one. I was thinking I'd use one in low gain mode and the other with the toggles set in high gain. However I saw some of the old style big box DD's on Reverb and took a flyer on one. This one has red knobs and was 89 bucks. Sounds excellent. This one has the internal trims for bass and presence as well as a pull tone pot for the high harmonics setting. Such a great little tone box. Both of them. The old style doesn't have quite as much gain as the new compact. They are close though. The old style will be more like a Marshally boost. Really nails that Malcolm tone. Punchy. Love it. Gotta give Barber a little love. He makes really high quality stuff.

I'm as big a fan of Barber as I am of Dr. Z. I can't say enough how well Barber understands overdrives (and, specifically, how to manage a clear, natural low-end throughout the gain path). I've had this larger Direct Drive and countless others, and they've all been impressive.
Barber has a user web-forum similar (but not as big/active, I think) as this one, that Barber himself participates in. David has even answered the shop phone personally, just like Doc has done at times, and chatted with me about tone & circuits. Two thumbs way up!

I had an old school Tone Press comp. Used it as an always-on pedal. It was the first one I saw that had the now-ubiquitous blend control. Good stuff from Barber!

My Barber Tone Press is always on, too.
Great compressor.

I'm a big Barber fan too. I have the 1/2 Gainer, Gain Changer and Tone Press pedals. I love all three of them.
I've never tried the Direct Drive. I'm surprised Dave doesn't get more praise in the pedal industry.

So awesome!! A Barber pedal into a Dr. Z amp is an amazing combination. I swear they were made for each other!! I bought an old box Direct Drive Low Gain a few years ago. I loved that thing!! I think i might have bought off of someone here on the z forum too. Anyway, the Barber Gain Changer is the only pedal i have bought twice. Had one a while ago then ended up really missing it a few years later so i bought another. This week i got a Barber Tone Press small box in the mail and it sounds sooo good! It's replacing my Xotic SP comp, which i loved, but i love the Tone Press more. Congrats on the new pedal! Two Direct Drives is the only thing that beats the Direct Drive haha!!

I’ve been a Barber user for about 10 years. One of my boards has an older (larger black) TonePress compressor and a new GainChanger SR (red); the other one has the smaller newer Tone Press (seafoam green) and a BurnUnit EQ.
Dave Barber is a real pro and makes great stuff.
