I knew the Nova was special yesterday when I heard BW demo it, but plugging in today, just a straight cable, Firebird to Nova...it was really inspiring. TOANZ! Really present and alive, but fat too. Even on the bridge pickup it was sweet but really had authority. Got tons of compliments from ya'all on the tone, THANK YOU! Then I passed the Firebird over to Buddy and he sounded sooo good with it, what a great talent he is. It was a joy to watch a master at his craft. Thank you Buddy for being there, and for puttin' a lil mojo on my #1. As I was saying bye to Doc, I told him to put me on the top of his list for a Nova. Wow, what an amp. Can't wait for production to start on it!

Well the NOVA was a real hit at Z Fest 2018. I did have Buddy's demo of it Friday filmed, I have yet to view it, but if it is true to tone I will release it for all to see next week. So a video is coming which will give you an idea of it's operation, and Dave's Thunderbird plugged in with Buddy at the controls Saturday was a real treat, not sure if that was fully captured. I know Phil was documenting the Wilbert's experience , so we'll see that release as well.
OK let me explain the NOVA for you all. I have had great success recreating some of my discontinued products , by refining them , and and spinning the design a bit , which only can happen in hind sight of the design. Looking back at it , listening to players comments and suggestions and doing a little operating on the base design. I had a hit with the evolved JAZ 20/40 into the Z Lux, and I'm trying again with the Galaxy version II or the NOVA.
I always dug the Galaxy, but it was a bit on the RAW side . A channel switcher that was a bit touchy , nice clean but louder dirty channel. Not quite as smooth an Overdrive as I would have liked , it's initial lack go Master Volume made it tough to gig with in todays climate. So instead of two separate switchable channels , I made a Cascaded Gain stage foot switchable with it's own Gain control pot. This allows you to have a rich, thick, almost Tweed like clean tone, then Foot-switch in a controlled Gain circuit which layers a smooth, sustained, overdriven tone on top of the clean. This works so well, the guitar signal is inputed and processed for a wonderful thick clean tone, then it is perfectly blended with a controlled overdrive signal. Think of the best overdrive pedal you have, and insert it inside your amp at the perfect stage of your captured guitar signal. Not driving and paralyzing your amps input as so many pedals do. But massaging your inputed and amplified guitar signal with the perfect about of overdrive.
I also added a PPIMV , for ultimate control of your over all Volume. Inclosed it in a Ultra-Lite 1X12 cab loaded with a perfect match H-30. The NOVA is a true Triode 5881 outputted amp. Triode mode as you know is the FATTEST, most genuine vintage guitar tone. It's only drawback is it's not very efficient as a Pentode configuration is on output watts. So the 28'ish watts gets a boost from the efficient well balanced Celestion H -30 Anniversary speaker.
Great grab and go amp, with best of both worlds, Vintage Tweed like tone , with smooth modern overdrive on tap. It does have a special TRIAD output transformer that many of you have heard and appreciated in other Z Designs. The design isn't finalized yet but it is 95% there, I will try and add an Effects Loop, just for the Gear Pagers that MUST have loop to play guitar , geez, Jimi never had a loop and he did pretty good. It's only drawback to a head configuration is it's Vintage single focused 8 ohm output speaker tap. Not a problem in a 8 ohm loaded combo, but extension cabs must be 8 ohm. Though 80 % of all extension cabs are 8 ohm, this is a issue I'll need to explore.
Look for a end of the year release say October/November just it time to go under the tree , for all you guys that have been VERY good all year.

Great concept and execution, Doc. Ditch the loop, and get that #1 amp out to me!!! Just kiddin, (about the loop, I want one asap!) I bet a loop will be an easy add on and it'll be much more attractive to a broader customer base. But I have to say that in the little bit of stage time I got with it, I was blown away by it's touch sensitivity. Very Wreck-like somehow. I'm still buzzin' after playing it, and I don't drink anymore!!!

My Galaxie (#3) is one of my prized possessions, especially since I got the MV mod. This news makes me very happy. FX loops are only good for time based/modulation units, and should really not be an issue on a "players" rig. Who's going to be able to discern the minute difference of a delay hitting the front end, or in a loop from an audience perspective in a small/medium venue live setting anyway? As for the 8 ohm only tap, I've been using my Galaxie with whatever cab I want for a decade without any worries thanks to a nifty box from the late Ted Weber. It's called a Z-Matcher. Catchy name huh? It's a cool box about the size of a Z Brake, that will match any input impedance to any output impedance. The Weber site lists them as out of stock, but so far, NOT discontinued. They also state that they're built to order. www.tedweber.com/z-matcher-50 www.bing.com/images/search?q=weber+z-matcher&id=4EB03C0B2D997539F063E86ABACC4259080D52FD&FORM=IQFRBAGet that thing finished Z, and send me a low#. :-)

Sounds like it's made for more than one of us. I can't get one soon enough. You know when you plug into an amp and it immediately inspires you that it's something special. That's the way it was at the jam for me. I hit the first note and knew I had to have one of these...like I wanted to pack it up and take it home with me Saturday. Bye bye overdrive pedals.

Given the fact that the "Nova" shares a lot of Galaxie DNA, coupled with the fact that I'm a lifelong Ford guy... and have been told by numerous witnesses to the Nova live that this is a must-have amp for me, I'm a little disappointed with the "Nova" nomenclature.
Again, Galaxie DNA = Fairlane GT. jmo/fwiw/ 'jus sayin', et al...

A little update on the NOVA. First T as they say " A rose by any other name would still smell as sweet "
Second I had a HOT young Guitar Player , Jake Kershaw, in to demo some amps, thanks Paul . He played a bunch but was stuck on the NOVA plugged into a Z Best cab, wow what a sound. So he ordered a set , so I will be releasing the NOVA in a head version as well as a 1X12 Combo.
