My 16 year old introduced me to a band called Billy Talent.
I really like their Afraid of Heights album. Here is a sample song. This song reminds me of Cult of Personality by Living color but I really like the guitar work and tone. Lots of different chord work too.
Fair warning, the lead singer is a more if a love/hate kind of guy.
Enjoy the clip

I'm a huge fan of Billy Talent. Been a little ashamed to admit that openly to everyone, since I don't necessarily love punk, can't stand emo, etc... all the things that Billy Talent appears to be on the surface. But dang, their guitarist plays some pretty TIGHT riffs (I know there's some liberal use of compressor in there) and the singer has serious pipes. Just tight production all around, and sounds better the louder you crank it. (A lot like Rage Against the Machine in that way.)

You gotta skip the watered down Canadian metal (sorry KeithA) and go straight to the source: Wales! EMS: Hi input, volume and gain at 3 o'clock, boost with an SD1. Enjoy!

However, I can't really get into part of the vocals on that track...the Death Metal part ! Guitar sounds great, though.

You need to sound like you have post nasal drip to venture into death metal territory.

Don't know Billy but I'm intimately familiar with his cousin, Lackov.

Btw-the best part about local young scenes is friendship.in this next clip,my son is in the blue flannel, and the guy in the gray hoodie(air drums at 1:45) is Tim,who will replace my son on bass in this band, while my son plays guitar in three other bands-including one with Tim on second guitar! Friendship that lasts 20 years is a beautiful thing.

Just gave Billy Talent a listen, good stuff! Impossile to keep my head still. Todd, your son has good taste! It’s up to guys like him to keep the 6-string lifestyle alive in this brave new world of hip-hop, pop-tarts, and auto tune. Thanks for the suggestion.

Never heard of them, but I like it. Good hook, tight band. Thanks for turning me on to them, Todd. You raised a young man with a fine ear!
