Anyone using it as a dedicated guitar amp? What is the response and how does it feel?
I'm in the marked for a big loud clean head. I always give Zamps a look first. For reference my 40w JAZ is a great sounding amp, I totally love it. But I'm looking for louder cleans. It will sit on a 412 with greenbacks.
Amps in the thought box, Reeves Custom 50, or Space Cowboy 50, Hi Tone DR style amp, Amplified Nation DW, or Fuchs CM. Anyone care to wager how the Z amps Surgical Steel compares to the amps I mentioned?
As always thanks for any input.

I believe Joe Walsh used one for a while on his last tour. That is a pretty good recommendation. I question how well it would work with Greenbacks.

I think these amps sound fantastic with a guitar thru them. Punchy, articulate, and fat. The amps have a nice break up to them too.
The clean sustain is great and it sounds real nice in a variety of different speaker configurations.
I agree with Zpilot comments about greenbacks. This map pushes nearly 90 watts, that's 90 watts before break up and then it goes on up from there. You would need a 4x12 of greenbacks to make work.
My 2 cents, Todd

Thanks for the input guys. I'll find out soon enough. I have one on order. As for the greenies, yeah, it's a 412. I know some guys don't like greenies for some things. I like them for EVERYTHING. In a closed back 412 anyway! I asked Z if it would be reasonable to build it with a tube rectifier as I'm not a pedal steel player. He's gonna try it and see what he thinks. I'll leave that decision in the Doctor's hands .

some tube rectifier sag could be really sweet!!!! 4x12 with Greenbacks will sound great! Love that speaker too. The Delta we have in my house has been modded for bass use by the Doc. It has a high/low input switch and a Zbest Cab with special 12" bass speakers. Even with the mods is still sounds great with a guitar running through it!! enjoy your amp, can't wait to hear how you like it! God bless, Todd

I'm looking for an amp that I can plug my Les Paul's into and stay clean at loud volumes. Big, fat, clean with sustain is what I'm after. Those huge KT88's look like they are full of tone! The loop will be nice for time based stuff.

If you want to get dirty, just drop a OD pedal in front of it and STAND-BACK!!!!!

It sounds beautiful clean with my strat, and it sounds equally great with a muff in front. I love this amp!

I bought a Reeves Custom 50 brand new, it was pretty crunchy. I was wanting super clean at the time, so I sent it back for the Custom 100. Plenty clean, but it doesn't sound as sweet as the Surgical Steel. I think you are going to be very happy with it, I know I am.

I haven't been playing steel lately. I got my carpal tunnel fixed, so now I can play finger guitar again. I'm still using the SS with my tele and strats, it sounds beautiful with anything I plug into it.
