I was asking about current opinions of the Therapy in a recent thread because one had popped up locally on CL when to my utter amazement, Steve (Benttop) PM'd me that his 001 could be available. It was a no brainer. We met earlier this AM and did the deal. Unfortunately, due to bad juju with a Charlene in the past, this one will now go into witness protection and just be known as the Therapy. I've only played it a few minutes so far through my Acapulco Gold cab (Gold + Cannabis Rex) so no real impressions yet. Thanks Steve, for reaching out and giving me the opportunity to buy this amp from you. It was good to see you again without the flashing blue lights.

Think you're going to like Charlene. Oh, right, "the Therapy.."

Yeah, Charlene wasn't going to happen for me. Sorry. I do have one amp with a name. My 62 blonde bassman head is "Scarface" because someone put a good sized nuggie on the front sometime in the past.
I've had another hour with the amp this afternoon and the one thing I've figured out is MV between 3:00 and dimed with V to taste. for my purposes. Still messing with the B\M\T but I suspect that will depend on the guitar and cab. Thanks again, and take care.
Edited to add that I might roll in a V-1 5751 or even a 12AY7 to try and gain more useful (to me) range between the MV and V. This thing grows hair quicker than an old man's ears.

roll that Treble back to 11 o'clock and you are set for stratocaster. But you probably know that already. I am always taken by surprise how much I love this amp, after 3 years over and over again.I was playing mine for the first time in 5 weeks last night and I LOVE the clean tone with mid dimed, bass and treble on 11 o'clock(with a G&L S 500).And I am a TERRIBLE guitar player,so imagine how good it is if you can play.

Late night and early morning V1 tube rolling.
12AX7 - Too much gain too early for my purposes. My rocker friend loved it though. 12AY7 - Tamed the gain (too much?) and very sweet cleans. Just tried this because it was the V1 in the old LP tweed twins that the Therapy was loosely based on. Might revisit this tube sometime in the future.
5751 - Much expanded usable clean range between the MV and V and not over the top OD on tap for the few times I'm in that mood. Put the amp very much in the clean\OD range of the LP tweed twins I have played in the past.

Therapy really does respond to tube and speaker swaps VERY noticeably. It allows for a lot of flavors of Therapy. Great report!

Spent the first few days getting to know the amp using a Gold + C-Rex open back pine cab. This AM I decided to move on to my most finicky cab, a closed back 1x12 tone ring (Wright Bros porting) blonde bassman piggyback cab. The Therapy sounded wonderful through it after a bit of knob tweaking. I now have two quite differently voiced cabs that sound good with the Therapy. Played a bit with the hairier tone settings but they are not really my thing. Mostly living with the MV between 12 and 3 with V around 9 or 10 so far with the 5751 in V1.

Spent the first few days getting to know the amp using a Gold + C-Rex open back pine cab. This AM I decided to move on to my most finicky cab, a closed back 1x12 tone ring (Wright Bros porting) blonde bassman piggyback cab. It is loaded with a Weber 12A150W, which was a great speaker for the bassman head but the only other amp it has sounded good with so far was the Z-28. The Therapy sounded wonderful through it after a bit of knob tweaking. I now have two quite differently voiced cabs that sound good with the Therapy. I wasn't going to post this because the cab is pretty unique but the 12A150W is still being offered so it seemed like marginally useful information to share. Played a bit with the hairier tone settings but they are not really my thing. Mostly living with the MV between 12 and 3 with V around 9 or 10 so far with the 5751 in V1. Dr. Z has said, and I believe him very firmly, that your speaker selection affects your final tone more than any other variable in your signal chain. I had to buy a lot of different speakers to prove it, but I have a boat load of speakers here that did not pass muster, despite their accolades and high prices.

Finished with speaker testing so this is probably my final post for the NAD thread: My ranking of the speakers and cabs I currently own, clean only, MV 1-3, V 9-10 BMT to taste:
1) Original Jensen c12N's in my 66 Pro Reverb. 2a) Gold + C-Rex cab 2b) 12A150W in the closed back, ported bassman cab 3) C-Rex 4) Gold 5) Emi RW&B in my 62 Princeton. I don't think this was due to it being in the smallest cab. There was something in the voicing that I didn't care for and couldn't dial out. This speaker and the Z-28 get along fine and it was my speaker of choice for the Princeton.
One final thank you to Steve for offering me this amp. I'm really enjoying it. Some day I'll take a picture of the black marker notation on the top of the chassis and see if anyone knows the story behind it. I assume that it has something to do with this being Therapy #001.

I put the 12AY7 back in to chase the early 50's BB King and T-Bone Walker tones with my HB guitars so I popped the back off this AM. I was going to do a separate thread on the chassis markings the next time I had the back open but now that I've seen them, they are pretty self-explanatory and don't justify a new thread. I took a picture and am posting it in this thread just for the heck of it. I'm glad Jake (whoever you are) decided to let this one go so I could eventually have it.

I'm thinking Jake at Humbucker? Not Jake at StateFarm! That is a beauty of an amp! Congratulations! Ron
