Thinking about picking up a small-ish acoustic amp to use as a monitor/DI; leaning toward the Fishman Loudbox Artist, which I tried out at Dave's on Saturday and didn't hate. Its two big advantages are a decent onboard reverb, plus both mix and pre-EQ DI outs and effects loop. Any strong preferences for other acoustic amps out there? I tried the new Fender one and it was made of plastic and sounded like arse.

My preference is to NOT have one. Of course, it's different being a solo guy. Even with a band, I would prefer to go straight in to the PA, then use a monitor. But your situation could be different. I've never really liked acoustic amps. How about a powered monitor? (with some sort of xlr-out to the PA)
Fishman loudbox...1x8 for $575? I dunno about that.

Well, as I say—the advantage is that it’s doing three things: DI, monitor and reverb. Simplifying the rig is worth something, seems to me. But yeah—is it worth $475, or whatever? Good question.

I've owned one or two acoustic amps and have returned or sold them about as quickly as I bought them. My Maz JR 2x10 sounds better than them all. I adjust BMT accordingly and all is good. I place a LR Baggs para acoustic DI pedal in line. It feeds the PA and the Maz is my on stage mix. Last big church production we didn't even use the direct out of the Baggs as the mic'd sound was so good out of the MAZ. I went between electric guitar and acoustic on the Maz that evening. Will do it again this Sunday eve. You have a couple of Z-tools in your quiver. I would experiment with them prior to buying an acoustic amp. Just my $.02.

I never used an amp with an acoustic until I got a Maz 38. Now, the Z plus is my acoustic amp.
Otherwise, I go direct to the board.

Like John (j4gitr), I've brought a few home and returned every one. None sounded as good as going thru the PA...and that's what I was trying to eliminate....

My experience with them is that they can get really, really loud. That SWR California Blonde thing is like having a good sized PA in your backline. Somethings shouldn't be that loud!
On the other hand, I have one of those little ZT Acoustic things and it's a brilliant little box that has 2 channels. One that's set up for a microphone and another that's sort of optimized for a Piezo equipped acoustic guitar. I've done house concerts and smaller events with just that thing on the floor. Pretty amazing.

I use a Behringher powered monitor. 1x12 with a tweeter, 1/4" and XLR ins and outs, some eq, notch filter. My Taylor 814CE sounds great through it for just me to hear then line out to the board. I use a compressor and reverb or delay pedal sometimes to thicken up the sound a little. Found it on Musicians Friend on a 15% off sale and got it for slightly over $200. Best acoustic amp I've ever had.

Never been nuts about any of the acoustic amps I've play through. Honestly have liked my acoustics through some regular amps a lot. I had a Carmen Ghia that loved my Martin. I recently picked up a BBE acoustic pedal for $100. It allows me to do all my EQ's and antifeed back, then I run the out to my amp as a monitor and use the DI out to the board. Works great, cheaper than a Fishman amp and if I don't need a monitor all I have to carry is the little box. BTW, I was lent a Fishman Aura for a while, and it was okay, but honestly feel like the BBE gets me to where I need to be for 1/3 of the price.

I have a Dean Markley UltraSound 50 watt. It sounds great, but I struggled because it's not loud enough.
I'd go with atleast a 100 watt amp, if your going to do a solid state acoustic amp. I heard good things about the AER's, but they're pretty pricey. Also heard the SWR California Blonde's are really good.

I’ve heard many of them sound good with a specific guitar and not so good with a different guitar. I suggest trying them with yiur guitar prior to making a purchase.
