Or is it even close to any of them?

This has been somewhat covered on a few different threads. This one in particular comes to mind, but I know there are many others if you search through the M12 threads. ztalk.proboards.com/thread/51017/m12-get-vox-tonesTo add my own 2 cents...I would say it has some notes of all three, but it is entirely its own thing. It's an entirely original circuit and won't give you exact tones of any of those. I usually describe it as sitting right in between a Princeton and an AC15. Still not super accurate but the best way I can think to convey it. Has the sweetness of a Fender, with the clarity and spank of a Vox, if you want that. Although, the speaker choice and tone stack settings can really emphasize more fender or vox notes. But still, won't give you exact copies of these. I've owned mine for about 9 months and have even found with the bass and treble set below noon, the EF86 gives it a midrange thickness, akin to a Marshall. That's how I run it. Volume at 1'clock. Bass at 10:30, Treble 11:30. Throw a plexi pedal in front of it and you'd never know the difference....maybe. It's a VERY clean amp. A great clean tone at that, and amazing pedal platform. Effects sound so clear and hi-fi through it. I personally don't try to coax any gain out it. I've not loved many of the youtube videos I've seen where guys try to push it to breakup. It's a sound, but not one I've found to be enjoyable. Doesn't really sound like the amp to my ears either. Here are some recordings of just some straight clean with a few effects. I recorded them when I first got it, and I think it is a pretty honest representation of the sound I hear live. Nothing fancy. Just some wankery I tracked for a few local buddies. Condenser mic about 3 feet back through my 2x12. Blue and G12H30. www.dropbox.com/s/m9zzkqee3z07o9y/STE-016.wav?dl=0www.dropbox.com/s/knc88gng4lklfa5/STE-017.wav?dl=0www.dropbox.com/s/oqdkqlaaqciglv1/STE-018.wav?dl=0

Thank you. I know mine isn't very Fender or Marshall, but I've never been able to bond with Vox, so I don't know the tone very well.

My .02 I’m only two days in on the M12 the best description I can give it is neutral. I do hear some Dr Z in the amp but it doesn’t get in the way of the overall sound. Add a pedal and it changes into almost different beast. So far it loves compressors, almost all my dirt boxes with the exception of a boss SD1 (I hate that pedal anyway) and reverbs and delays are clean and clear. Hope this helps.

The amp was originally developed specifically to be a pedal platform. With a few minor modifications it's a mini-Stangray so it's kinda in the Vox territory.

It is not voxy to me at all. We all hear things differently. It has a sound all its own IMO. Changes with pedals of course. Sounds so good with any pedal I have tried with it. Great sounding amp. Running mine with a gold.

"neutral" is a good way to put it. Doesn't sound like any of the three really. I didn't care for it much w/out a pedal in front.

Since either me or my wife always has some sort of pedal “on” at all times it makes a good little work horse. I am thinking of trying a 10” Gold for giggles just to check out the “mini stingray” option..

Another cool feature is that once you get those tone controls above noon, they start boosting those frequencies, so you can get a pretty convincing "pushed" clean tone at volumes that won't knock over buildings...
I love mine. Just a perfect gigging amp for me.

I have a closed 1x12 greenback that I use also but that was recorded through an Avatar open back 2x12. Celestion blue and g12h30 (Ann).
From what a I recall, all controls were around Noon.
