Hi!
I am running a Cure live for my dirty sounds, would the Z Plus be a good amp to run clean with the Cure? Thoughts? Cheers, Mike.

How loud do you run the "dirty" Cure (V, Master, Level)? Z-Plus has plenty of volume, but if you're really pushing the Cure, a Z with more power/headroom might be a better match.

I run the Cure with the Master and Volume pretty much maxed out and the Level between 10 and 1 depending on the venue (mostly small to medium sized).

Agree with Mike here. I'm thinking you'd be happier with a Stangray, Mazerati (V1 or V2), EZG50 or maybe even a Z Lux for a clean to pair with your Cure. Depending on volume, a Maz18 in a matching 1x12 studio cab would be nice too. Ron

Thanks everyone. How a bout a Z-Lux at full power? Enough clean headroom?

Thanks everyone. How a bout a Z-Lux at full power? Enough clean headroom? Yeah, Zlux or EZG. I have a JAZ which is the "version one" of the Z-Lux. I also have a Z-Plus. The JAZ has way more cleans available at loud volumes, even with humbuckers. The Z-Lux, Z-Plus and Cure are from what I would call the "same family". Different for sure, but similar front ends, similar tones in overlapping ways. The EZG is from a different family all together. So I guess how different you want your next amp to be is the question.

Back from the basement after playing both amps.
Cure set with max V and Master, tone knobs straight up, Level at 11 o'clock
Z-Lux Z-Plus on full power, Master full up, tone knobs at noon, Cut at 9 o'clock, reverb at minimum
Eq bypass not engaged on either amp
Z-Lux Z-Plus volume at 1:30 is about where it spills over from "maybe clean" to "definitely dirty" with my Nash Tele with guitar volume full on. It is not as loud as the Cure; average sound level difference was 3 to 4 dB on my old Radio Shack meter. (Both are LOUD at the settings I tried; louder than I'd be able to use at most gigs.)
If you need to match the Cure's dirty output level with a clean sound at the sound pressure level you're generating, you'll need to go with a more powerful amp imo.

Thanks for doing that. So if the Z-Lux isn't loud enough, I imagine the Z-Plus will fall short as well. Amazing how loud the Cure can get. I usually stay at around 10 o'clock on the Level, going up to 11 o'clock if the venue is hopping. Thanks again! I respect your knowledge and opinions when it comes to Dr. Z amps.

OOPS, I meant Z-Plus for all the above! D'oh Added: I fixed my earlier post
