Last night's blues rig. Settings were about 1-11-1, with a dual humbucker tele(Dimarzio's, PAF Master bridge, vintage mini humbucker neck), Brakelite on 2. Was cool to just focus on playing; ride the guitar vol from clean to OD.
This works with humbuckers much better IMO than with single coils. The strat and regular tele just don't "drive" the amp as well. And setting the amp for humbucker clean doesn't sound nearly as single coil clean. I'll be sticking with the modest pedalboard for s/c guitars. That humbucker tele has a 500k Emerson wiring kit with a treble bleed, and I honestly think cranked amp, gtr vol rolled back clean sounds better than any clean I can just dial INTO the amp. But can't say that about the s/c guitars; I can dial in great cleans.
That all said, having a single boost and a wah on the floor with battery power could just be THE ticket for the humbucker tele. Thinking a Klone, since they're known for being great with an already overdriving amp. There were times last night where I could have used "just a little more." Anyone use a Klone+Z28?

I just recently picked up a tumnus deluxe that works real well with the z-28. I like it because I can tame the mids. Works well as a clean boost, pushes the amp nicely, and also sounds great with the gain cranked a bit too. The overdrive has this very blooming quality to it. Love it

Guitar-cable-Z-28 = A good humbucker (guitar) will always drive nice with the Z-28 .... both imho and iirc as shared with me by Doc several years ago Some of my favorite play-time/volume/tones have been with either a PRS SC-245 or Gibson SG into a Z-28 with 112 cab ... all controls set @ 12:00 .... with guitar volume/tone and pickup selector adjusted for flavor Not had any play time with a Klon or Klone .... but curious to hear your results best regards and cheers always, Joel

My friend let me borrow his Rimrock Effects Mythical Overdrive-vintage spec. It's one of if not the most loved Klone and it sounded friggin awesome. But it doesn't take batteries and I don't wanna power it/buy a board. I'm a HUGE fan of Wilson Effects(if you've never heard of them, check them out!!). He just started building a Klone, so I'm saving up for that one.

I have a small Nano+ sized board, powered by a One Spot/daisy chain that I use with the Z28. It goes: -Wampler Faux Spring Reverb -Mojohand Fx Bayou Tremolo -MXR Carbon Copy delay -Xotic BB Preamp -Timmy -MXR Phase 95 -custom Wilson wah on the floor
I'll set the amp to 10-10-11 and use it with my G&L's, a Legacy and an ASAT Classic.

I didn't like the stock Greenback. I thought about the Z12 but found a used WGS Reaper HP local, and really like it. Loud, punchy, efficient G12H30 Anniv. copy. Still British, but not all mushy mids. Check it out.
I'm working on running Doc's preferred tube compliment. Got the JJ 6V6s and Winged C EF86, will be getting the Shuguang 5AR4 and Tung Sol reissue 12AX7. Have a Gold Lion ri rectifier and a NOS GE 12AX7 in there now.

Must be the Altoids that make your tone “fresh” 😁
