Had a chance to play both of these amps side by side and here is my take. I am running my m12 with a 5AR4 and a c-gold. Cure is stock.
Cure has a bit more headroom, but not a lot. Both amps take pedals very well, but a slight nod to the m-12 IMO. LOVE the level knob on the cure. Dial in your sound, then taper volume to your liking. I wish every amp had this option, very handy. Cure has a middle eq knob and m-12 does not. This does not concern me as I have that knob set to 0 to 1. Cure has a master volume and m-12 does not. I really like the taper of the volume knob in the m-12 as it is relatively quiet up to noon, but past that, can get really loud for 12 watts.
Amps can be made to sound very similar, but the eq on the cure is a little more sophisticated, so can probably get more variety on the cure. Both amps are awesome tone machines. I cannot say which one I prefer. M-12 is under rated in my opinion. I think it would be safe to say if you are a pedal guy, the m-12 might suit you better, but I also like the added headroom of the cure. Cannot go wrong with either amp IMO.

Not a pedal guy at all, but would love to try the M12 some day. Like the EF86 concept.

I have not A/B compared the Cure & M12 myself, but I have owned my M12 for a long time and strongly agree with you on two points: 1. The M12 is way under-rated. 2. The taper on the M12's volume knob is superb. I could elaborate, but I've probably left quite a trail of praise for the M12 already in the amp's own thread section of this forum.

I've been using my M12 with an Avatar 1X12 loaded with an Eminence Red White and Blues as my main amp for about a year now, and have yet to find a venue it can't handle. I don't play really big rooms anymore, and the M12 will fill the rooms I do, sometimes without a PA. Solid! Previously, I'd been gigging with a Fuchs mod ODS, and at 50 watts, there were only two volume settings on that amp: "too loud" and "off".
I love that it does that Z-thing where when you turn the bass and treble past noon, the amp gets louder and meaner, but stays clean. That's the sound of a clean amp defined, in my mind.
I thought about pairing it with a Cure, but stumbled on a great deal on a Swart Atomic Space Tone, which, honestly, I'm on the fence about. It's a great amp, and blends well with the M12, but it's light on the bass end (something I've heard about the Cure too, to be fair), and, since I'm running it in stereo with the M12, I don't ever use the reverb or tremolo, which are two of the main reasons people get this amp in the first place.
Ah well, give it time. If I don't like it, I can always flip it and get that Cure down the road...
Anyway, for beautiful cleans, I don't think you can touch the M12 with any other Z, but of course, YMMV.
