Hi Z-peeps,
Upon strong recommandation a couple years ago I bought a Timmy pedal. Always loved it. It stopped functioning properly lately... you would stop hearing any guitar sound when activated. Someone told me to email Mr Cochrane who makes them; he hasn't emailed me back. Someone else told me that it would cost as much to repair it then to buy a new one.
Anyone had the same problem? Any clues?

Call him 615 896 8555 I called a few years ago re a potetiometer failing on my Tim. He had me ship it to him and fixed it free. Paul is in the same class as Dr Z - excellent customer service.

Does it pass signal when it is off? If so, one possibility is that the footswitch isn't working properly when it is switched to on. That can sometimes be fixed by getting some deoxit into it. Though when that is the case there is generally a delay when switching it from on to off also. If it's just the switch, replacements can be had from several sources. Stew Mac sells a device for getting the deoxit in the switch as well as the switch. You can sometimes get it in by seeping it around the shaft of the switch and then activating it a bunch of times.

Footswitches do go bad...it's the part that gets used the most on most pedals. I just replaced the one in my Paisley Drive a few weeks ago...got the correct o.e.m. part from Smallbear electronics.

My experience has been the footswitch on most pedals will go bad at some point.

Does radio shack contact cleaner work for this problem as well? Curious.

Any contact cleaner should work as long as it doesn't have some sort of lubricant in it.

Deoxit made it work, so far. I'll try it with other pedals in the chain this time.

You can use the DeOxit on all your pedal inputs and outs, tube sockets, potentiometers in amps or guitars, toenail fungus, oh wait - cancel the last item. It is a great product to have on hand for anything that oxidizes or gets noisy or has static. Glad it worked for you!

I like their (Caig) Fader Lube too. It's great for sound board faders, potentiometers, and anywhere you want to leave a trace of lubrication. The faders on our church soundboard were getting scratchy and a shot of Fader Lube in them cleared it right up, and that was a year ago. I've used it to good effect on stomp box switches as well.

Deoxit works great. And by the way, mentholatum applied twice a day will get rid of toenail fungus.

Any time guys. I don't post often, but I creep around a good bit. You guys turned me onto the Ghia, thinking a Maz or even a Cure may be my next one.
