I have mostly been a "no pedal" guy live. It reduces a lot of hassles when you can always get a good sound and volume and don't have to worry about inadvertent accidental level adjustments (or have pranking bandmates- there is nothing quite like having somebody employ a dissonant pitch change in your chain when you go into a solo.)
It is likely that my live setup will get more complex in the near future, but I'm not quite as adept as most of you for doing the pedal dance, and all of this while singing.

I’d never want to arbitrarily restrict myself from using pedals any more than I might avoid using a particular gauge of string or a certain type of pick. Depends on the gig and the tones you are hoping to achieve - or are being paid to achieve - to serve the music. I could see where it could work in a Blues or roots situation, or maybe straight ahead jazz, etc.
In fact, I’ve never done a gig with no pedals at all. Even a boost gives you colors the amp alone may not.
