The 1987 is rated 50W, can I use a 2x10 cab (70W) or am I asking for trouble? Thanks!

The 1987 sounds great with 2 greenbacks as well - I ran mine through a Dr. Z Maz Invasion combo loaded with 2 12" greenbacks and it worked very well.

After some research on this forum, the speakers are wired in parallel. They are rated 70W and 16ohms each. So in parallel, they can handle 140W and load the amp with 8ohms. I still have to try though. This week-end.

I have a pair of Z-10's in a Z 2x10 combo cab that I have driven with several amps. I have pushed them hard with a BF Bassman head with it being pushed with a Tube Screamer. No problem.

Multiply the amps power rating by 1.5 to define a safe power rating for the speaker cab.
For Example: A 50W amp x 1.5 = 75W Speaker Cab = the minimum safe wattage to prevent nuking the speaker(s). Likewise, a 100W amp x 1.5 = 150W Speaker Cab minimum.
Using that formula, a Dr. Z 2x10 cab with 2-Z-10’s at 70W each = 140W, and is well beyond the 1.5 safety factor for a 50W amp. In fact, a 140W cab would reasonably handle a 100W amp, with the volume knob set below 11.
