I was hoping someone who owned both would respond ( Jaguar ) .
Well the Delta 88 and Surgical Steel share many parts and basic design. But I re engineered the Delta to accommodate the needs of a Pedal Steel player , which in turn made the SS a better Guitar amp as well.
First I changed the tone stack , it now has a more Fender friendly Treble , Middle , Bass set of controls likened to the Blackface Fenders. Then I added a tube driven Effects Loop to accommodate the use of Reverb , and Trem. pedals that are a must to Steel players , along with any other effects that maybe used. This is a great 12DW7 tube driven E/F loop , that guitar players will also enjoy.
So in effect I resigned the Delta 88 , turned it into a Surgical Steel Pedal amp and by doing that I greatly improved the Delta 88. It was a win win design. Now only if Guitarists would need a great sounding 90 watt KT 88 based amp.

Thanks Doc! I'm gonna have to try one. Love the Delta 88 for guitar - my favourite amp of all time.

They feel much different under my hands. I have a Delta 88, and they respond differently. The Surgical Steel is more versatile and easier to dial and is a great pedal platform, probably the best I've ever played. The added circuitry and more traditional EQ makes it feel like a totally different amp from the Delta 88. The Delta 88's tone stack allows it to drive into distortion more easily than the Surgical Steel, but both have that fast transient response. The Surgical Steel has even more bass on tap than the Delta 88 and could easily be used as a bass amp too!
