I initially put this video on as background noise while I organized my room. After a few minutes I sat down and watched the whole thing. It's a very impressive music history of Sound City and the Neve Recording Console. One of the early highlights is how Buckingham and Nicks met Mick Fleetwood. Mick was worried about the change in the music, the producer responded (paraphrasing) "you'll be closer to the bank than you will be to the blues." So many iconic records were recorded here.

I am not a fan of the Foo's, but I came away with a huge respect for Dave Grohl as well as the dedicated employees that were there. Great documentary along with the Tom Dowd documentary if you have not seen it.

LOL.. shouda known y'all weren't big FF fans when I ripped out an Everlong riff at Z-fest and I just got a bunch of cold stares. Yeah, I like 'em--not my favorite but I dig their attitude, but admittedly Dave's a madman (in a good way, I suppose).
This reminds me of Sonic Highways a bit, which was cool but then I got a little tired of by the end of each episode. I really do appreciate the kind of insight into the music/recording biz that really only these guys can tell.

I thoroughly enjoyed the movie. I used to watch just that and TED talks in both directions on long flights.

It's a very good movie. They miss the mark on 2 points.
Pro tools is not responsible for people not playing at the same time in the studio. In the movie they go out of their way to demonize pro tools. It's just odd. That's not the enemy. A Pro Tools HD rig, everything included, is and was still way less than the cost of a new 2 inch analog machine. That part seemed dumbed down for the movie and didn't make sense to me as a guy in the studio business.
The other thing that they glaringly failed to mention as far as the downfall of studios like Sound City....... Rock Stars Home Studios like the one their board ended up in!!
Post script. The room that was Sound City got purchased by somebody else and is doing great as a recording studio now.
