For once, UPS showed up early No pics yet. Red w/ tan grill cloth. First, brief session: LP straight in to lo input, connected to Z Best cab at half power. Just starting to get a handle on what's achievable with the rotary tone and using Cut to adjust. It sounds glorious. For this first run, I ended up with tone on 3rd position, Cut around 4 (out of 10; these controls have numbers on the panel, unlike some Zs.) Massive volume, even on half power, once you push the volume knob. Really roars. But it's also got a very usable lower volume, nice and clean. With the bridge humbucker all the way up (tone on 6; these are Larry Corsa Manalishi pickups, which are PAF like, not high output) the sound is pretty clean up to about 6 on the amp volume, unless you really dig in. A little above that and the amp is still clean with a bit of really nice compression starting. That's likely a sweet spot for me, and I'm eager to try some pedals. Sound level is still manageable. There is a lot more gain available after that, so this amp should also be great for the "clean to mean" working of the guitar controls. Eager to try it with other speakers in an open-back cab. It gets louder, naturally, when you use the hi input. And I put it on full power for a bit because no one is home but me at the moment If you've been thinking about this amp, especially now that it's discontinued, you owe it to yourself to try one out.

Hey! Congrats on the new amp - the DB4 is the most amazing amp that virtually no one knows about. Enjoy!

As nice as the amp was into the Z Best, I like it better into a 1x12 with Creamback M65. May have been aided and abetted by using a Collings 290.

Dude, I'm actually sitting in my office right now, playing my 290 through my DB4 and 1x12 convertible cab loaded with an M65! It's a glorious amalgamation. Pure rock n roll...

Interesting, I just picked up that exact cab configuration from another member. I havenโt had the chance to compare it to the 2x10โs but Iโm looking forward to it. Also, can I run that in stereo off of the ditto X2 just into the back of both cabs or do I need to run an aby pedal at the end of the chain into both cabs?

I'm sure you can't run speaker cabinets through a pedal output. Those are line level signal and intended for input, not output. If you want to run two cabinets out of one head you need a Y cable or a switching system. Don't try using an ABY switch for speaker output. The contacts aren't designed to carry the wattage and you can open circuit the amp. That could damage the amp.

Ok, so I need to run a y cable off the single mono output on the last pedal. In order to run stereo off the pedal board I would need to have two separate heads?

Ok, so I need to run a y cable off the single mono output on the last pedal. In order to run stereo off the pedal board I would need to have two separate heads? Sorry Mike, don't mean to hijack! goodez, , you can run a stereo rig but for that you would need two amps and two speaker cabinets. I'm thinking you could run stereo out of your ditto pedal, one signal would be wet and one would be dry but I haven't used one of those pedals so I'm not sure. I was concerned that you would try to plug two speaker cabinets into one amp speaker output with guitar cables and either a pedal or an aby box. You can damage your amp if the output is not loaded or is loaded at too low of an impedance. The Y speaker cable is necessary to plug two speaker cabinets into one head but that is not stereo, your just sending mono to two different speakers. Speaker cables are larger conductor and capable of carrying more wattage than a guitar or signal cable. If you want more info please pm me so we can let these great people keep the thread on Mike's gorgeous new DB-4.

Hijack away, guys. Happy to host friends helping friends!
goodez, you may also need to check if your pedal's dual outputs are wet (effected signal) and dry, or whether it's a pedal that accepts stereo inputs and has stereo outputs. In the former case, the pedal is creating the two signals from one input; in the latter, the pedal is just doing its thing on the left and right inputs.
