Im probably that last to know, but I just read that the Doc is discontinuing the 8 - along with the 66, Z-28, Remedy, M-12, Monza, and the Mini. Glad I have the 8 in a head format. Never letting that go. Might look for a combo version as well. Sad, but I understand the logistics challenges with maintaining such a large product line. Keep ‘em coming Doc!

I'm hanging onto mine, it sounds so good in a big cab with the Z-12 speaker. It was the first Z amp I bought (It used to be in a surf green studio cab), and I love it. I got the same cabs for my Maz 18NR (ET-65) and Maz 8 (Z-12). Both have Brake Lites installed. They look like they're different colors in the pictures...In person they look almost identical. Maybe the flash angle? Anyway... Meet my Twins!

I'm looking in my crystal ball and I see a time when the initial excitement over the Z-Plus has subsided, as it usually does with ALL new amps, and the MAZ 8 goes back into production. Doc always has that option. It might be tweaked a little, the way the Z-LUX was from the JAZ. In the meantime there will be a certain amount of MAZ 8's placed on the market by people wanting to change to a Z-PLUS.
I'll bet that dropping the MAZ 8 also has something to do with the amount of output transformers in stock. Custom components like those need to be purchased in a large quantity and current sales may not warrant that.

It's all about cost/benefit. The hot-selling amps can support a number of slower selling niche amps, but there's a point at which something's got to go. Works the same way in publishing and just about every other product-driven business.

I love the color, but have been thinking the Maz 8 is not getting it done in the Studio size.

It makes all the difference. That cab with a Z-12 speaker really sounds good. Try plugging into an outboard cab if you can.

The Maz 8 may be gone from current production at this point, but it sure isn't forgotten! I dusted mine off this weekend and was reminded all over again just what this little guy is capable of. I mean, it isn't going to play a stadium unmiked but within it's design parameters I see it as a do-it-all kind of amp.
It's versatility might be edged out a wee bit by the Cure but in my opinion only because of the Level Control on the Cure, which I see as one of the greatest single features ever designed into an amp.
Sorry, rant over-please carry on!

I'm always the last to find out anything! In any case, I'm happy to own a Maz-8, an amp built with design in mind rather than sales. I hope they become as coveted as I like mine. The only other model that gives me GAS is the Z-Lux.

At similar volumes I like the tone of my Maz 8 over my Therapy! It seems like the Therapy is more compressed...I'm keeping that Maz 8 til the day I die. I love it's pure tone, and the way it breaks up is magical. I am so glad I've got mine.

One of the problems with low wattage amps is that they cost very nearly the same to make as their larger siblings - but people expect to pay half as much for them

One of the problems with low wattage amps is that they cost very nearly the same to make as their larger siblings - but people expect to pay half as much for them ....and then these people go out and spend up to $1,000 on good attenuation to tame the over-powered amp 😳

Right! And I should clarify: it's not a problem with low wattage amps, it's a problem with trying to sell them . I hope to pick up a Maz8 one of these days...

I can pretty safely say that the Maz 8 Studio Combo is the only amp I will *never* sell as long as I can fret a chord. I look forward to it bringing a smile to my face when I'm 80 years old. The 18 on the other hand hasn't been fired up in a year... it's really made for the stage and sadly, I haven't gotten to play a lot recently. Maybe it's time to let that one go...

Well said, Markus! It was my first Z amp and since the MV/Reverb upgrade it's incredible. I can't see ever selling mine either. Good to see you around the board, I hope you find the time to keep playing. I always enjoyed your music.
