Doc, Thanks for the awesome, insightful reply to the design of the Z-28 and for answering all of my questions. I was unaware of the EF86s voltage tolerance and the nature of it's clipping. With regards to the rectifiers I understand the need for rebiasing and was curious about them bringing the output down a little for certain situations. We guitar players do like to experiment. Likewise the scoop of the 5751 was news to me and I'm grateful that you took the time to answer my questions. Check out the video Z Bros:

Hi. My z 28 Comb came with 12ax7 phase inverter. Can i try 5751 without bias being affected.. Thanks for reply.

Hi. My z 28 Comb came with 12ax7 phase inverter. Can i try 5751 without bias being affected.. Thanks for reply. Yes you can change the 12AX7 to 5751 without rebiasing or opening amp. If you change power tubes or switch rectifiers then you'll have to rebias which is something you should only do if you're experienced with a voltmeter and working on electrical circuits. There are lethal voltages inside and things one should not muck with if they don't know what's inside.
