Several MAZ 18 settings to get there are in the tone sheet you can access by clicking the link in my signature below. They'll be good starting points for the MAZ 8.

I use the "blackface type" settings from that link with my Rik clone which has the mids attenuated. My reason for that is when I saw the Byrds (WAY back when) they were all using Fender amps and that is the sound that stuck in my head.

Also, if you haven't already researched this, a BIG, BIG, part of that classic Rik 12 sound is compression. Mcguinn recorded direct into the board. Also, if I recall from what I've read correctly, Harrison was turned onto the Rik 12 by Mcguinn so he probably would have done something similar. I use a Keeley comp when I play my 12-string because it has a tone control. That gets me closer to Mcguinn's Jangle Box compressor which he is so fond of.

You're right on about compression , but it was McGuinn who got turned onto the Rick 12 by Harrison when he saw the movie "Hard Days Night". Terry Melcher came up with the idea at a Byrds session to run the 12 thru heavy compression.

I’m a Compression junkie, rarely play without it. Good ol’ Telecaster Nashville squish. Enjoying my RT-66 but have also used the EGO comp for years.

I can't remember what I had for breakfast , but for some reason this stuff sticks.

About memory...I can really relate. I usually say something like, "Sorry, first day on my new brain" or something stupid to deflect. I meet someone and 5 minutes later can't remember their name. I really, really hope that Doc makes up name tags for Z-Fest...like out first name and the forum nickname. I'll be lookin' lame if he doesn't! Sorry for the micro hijack.
