Gday Folks, although I haven't had the Mini Z 1x10 combo long Im already thinking Id like to add a 1x10 speaker box under it and run both speakers into a Y box to move a bit more air when jamming with friends. I really want to see what an Alnico speaker will do for the little Z and was thinking either a Red Fang or a Celestion Gold. Should I be concerned about the difference in sensitivity of these speakers in comparison to the 100.2db Ramrod in the amp? The Celestion is rated at 97db and the Red Fang at 102db. Is this difference enough to worry about as far as one speaker drowning out the other?
Cheers, Scott.

With your amp sitting on top of the extension, if it's a lower sensitivity speaker you probably won't be able to tell it's doing anything at all. Side by side you might hear it, but I predict you won't be happy with mismatched sensitivities. I've never seen anyone here try that and conclude it works great - they always go get another speaker with the same sensitivity. YMMV.

I think you will like the Red Fang better than a 10" C-Gold anyway. The 12" C-Gold is my favorite speaker but I don't think the 10" version is nearly as good.

Thanks for the feedback guys. Think I might try an Alnico in the amp first, then if I like it Ill duplicate it in the ext cab. Trust me to always pick the expensive option.....
Cheers, Scott.

I’ve got the g10 gold in my princeton. I’ll give it a go today or tomorrow and let you know what I think. I run my mini through a 112 open back dr z convertible with a blue. Sounds fantastic.

Hey Scott!
Gave it a quick once over today before my wife got home. I have the head so can’t compare it to your redfang unfortunately. Tonally it’s everything I love about the gold/blue/cream series. Compared to my 100 db 12” blue it had a touch more mids and the highs were a bit more strident. However the speaker isn’t broken in yet so some of that could change with further use. Only 3-5 hrs on the speaker. Sounded nice clean and held up nicely even with the amp at full tilt. Really full bass without being mushy. Tried it out with my telecaster. My les paul is at the shop getting the bridge notched, so I can’t test with humbuckers until later this week.

I think I might just pull the trigger on the Celestion Gold 10, theyre easily got here, Ill give it a try in the combo first. If I like what I hear Ill probably order a 1x10 box with another Gold 10 in it from my local Z dealer. I like the Ramrod, but it does seem a little one dimensional.... although I really haven't given it time to break in at all.... That me though, got be tweaking!
Cheers, Scott.

No worries Scott! I’m a tinkerer too. Just changed the pickups in my AVRI not because they were lacking but Captainron gave me a killer deal on some Fralins and a Florance nocaster bridge pickup. The Fralin neck pup was a mild improvement to sideways but that florance nocaster... holy moly. Thing is amazing.

Cheers, Scott.

Lollar makes a great P90 set too haha Yep, been on that web page too.
Going to spring for a Celestion Gold 10 I think, its a good place to start anyway. Wont know until I try, everyones preference to what they like to hear is different.
Cheers, Scott.
