I took out my Z-Lux for a gig tonight, and it was in a pretty good size auditorium, seating around 800-1000. Big stage too. The gig was with my big band, 4 saxes, 3 trombones, tuba, 4 trumpets, keys, bass, drums, 2 vocalists, and me and the Z-Lux. I had it on full power, and I couldn't get it above 9:30 on the volume. It just was too huge sounding! But boy did it sound sweet. Next time I'll drop it back to half power where I almost always use it at, but it got me to thinking...
I just got done playing my Therapy into an open back Z cab with a V-30 speaker. Using the Air Brake at max bedroom setting, my wife's sleeping. With the Z-Verb in front and a drive pedal it sounded fabulous.
I've never used an attenuator with my Z-Lux but I think tomorrow I'll hook it up and give it a play.
Have any of you all used attenuation with the 'Lux? Thoughts?

Even amps with great master volumes, because it is the only way to hear what power tube saturation sounds like. Sometimes I conclude that I cannot get my sound without just a scosh of that sound as part of what I'm trying to do, making the Airbrake mandatory. So yeah, I've tried it with the Z-Lux. Sounds freaking great, if you ask me, especially with the master volume up around or above 2 o'clock.

I'm going to check this out later today. I'm curious if you used the half power switch or if it was at full power when you attenuated? It's going to be fun trying it both ways. It seems like there ought to be a difference between less attenuation at half power or more attenuation at full power, having the speaker at the same dB level. I'm guessing that there wouldn't be that much difference but it may sound more squashed with the amp at full output power, since you're using more attenuation to get the same level.

I have not, my Airbrake is at the practice space where my Remedy lives (non-master) but maybe I should give that a try with the Z-Lux at the next gig. 9:00-9:30 on the master is about it for me too, also at full power. Sounds really good though, still get excited just thinking about it sometimes. I’m not sure I could handle “more” :-).

I use the attenuator indoors. Half power and set it to max bedroom. Get the tone i want. Then, start opening up the attenuator to get the volume i want.
Works like champ!!

I have a full size Z AirBrake that I'll have to try on my Z-Lux.
Are you guys using it with the amp on half or full power?
