Both Eminence made. I know from a very reliable source that the GA is the closest speaker in Eminence's line to the Z12. The GA is 40 watt, 100dB while the Z12 is 50 watt, 99dB.
Has anyone played both, can compare Both? Has anyone had either in a Z28? I have listened to the Dave Baker video, awesome, but that guy mak3s everything sound killer. Thinking I want to replace the Greenback in my amp now with a more American speaker.

I have used the Allesandro Speaker quite a bit, I have also used the Z-12 quite a bit as well.
Both are great speakers out of the box. The GA SC64 is more of an American voice and the Z -12 has a British tone to my ears.
I am using the GA64 in my AB763 Type amps.
I have the Z-12 in my Plexi combo and I like it.

I'd skip both and go with something from WGS or Jupiter.
I know I'll get in trouble for this, but I much preferred the Alessandro to the Z12. Less harsh on the high end when overdriven, tighter and punchier on the bottom end, and smoother throughout the mids. The Z12 out of the box is sweet, especially for clean tones, but I actually fell out of love with it when it broke in, oddly enough. FYI, my definition of clean tone is picking lightly on a cranked amp... ;-)
The Alessandro is really designed for a Blackface style amp (hence the SC64 reference), so it can get honky in a mid forward amp. I'd only want to put that speaker in an amp with a mid or presence control.

What WGS would you recommend for the mid forward Z28? And why? The ET65 OR G12C/S might lose the great highs i get now. Retro30 maybe? As for Celestions, I do like the A Type and think the G12H30 70th Anniv. would serve me better than a Greenback.

The ribbed cone speaker will retain those highs. I can tell you, the G12A, while a bit pricey, is a mighty fine speaker, it will hang all day with my ASW's. If you want to try a G12H30 style speaker, I would go with the ASW KTS70. One of my favorite speakers of all time.

Would a Celestion Vintage 30 be way too much mids for a Z28? Anyone ran this combo?

My hatred of the V30 has been well documented on this forum. I know the Z28 is so much more, but when I think of brown deluxe inspired amps, I don't think Celestions. I think Jensens. When I had my Z28 many years ago, I used a Greenback loaded cab. This was long before I went down the speaker rabbit hole. If I had to do it again, I'd be thinking Creamback or Alnico Cream for Brit tones, WGS G12A or Jupiter 12LA for American tones.
