and you think the Maz 8 will cover the gig, the Z28 comes out and saves the evening.
I typically bring my Maz 8 head accompanied by my Z28 when I play at a gig I am not fully informed about. Our band played at a 50th HS reunion last night, and it was in a hotel conference room. I thought for sure the 8 would cover it (un-mic'd) because of the room size and (cough cough) the age of the crowd. But this group started drinking out in the foyer before dinner was even served, and continued for 3 hours. Fortunately they were happy drunks and loved our band and music, but after the 1st set I knew I was pushing the 8 too hard. So I set the 28 on top of the 8, switched speaker cables and power cable, and BAM! - there was the big round tone I needed. I took my ASAT and McCarty and I was enjoying my tone as much as the people watching I was doing. We had 2 requests - Stones and Creedence, so we did "Last Time" and "Bad Moon Rising" which got us another hunnerd bucks at the end of the night.
I will never sell my 8, but I will always carry a spare Z for the "just in case" option. We don't play that often, but gigs like this make it worth while.

"Z" Steve, good story. Do you run a clean boost ? I have Lizard Leg Flying Dragon but I only use it to boost the McCarty's humbuckers when split to single coil.

Glad you had one of those great gigs, Steve. Nothing better than a great crowd and equipment that is getting the job done! I love the opening riff on "The Last Time." That signature riff brings 'em to the floor like an alter call! DIG!
