I got a Maz 8 Studio combo for my 50th birthday on Monday. I played for an hour or so and it was great. Played for 5 minutes on Thursday and there was a high pitched buzz that decreased when I touched guitar or the amp switches. This morning I plugged it into a different power socket and it was fine. Tonight the buzz is back (same socket) Tried 3 different leads and 4 guitars but no joy. It sounds like a ground issue but I'm no expert. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Definately sounds like a ground issue. It might be an input jack issue which is rare. It might be a cold joint or cracked solder joint which is also rare. i have had cold joints or cracked joints cause a whine on my own builds.

Check that the chassis bolts are tight. They're part of the grounding.

Don't panic. The MAZ 8 is a simple amp. It doesn't have channel switching and things like that to fail. Just a well thought out design and select components. The mounting screws are the kind of things that sometimes loosen during shipping. Did you pick it up in a store or was it shipped to you? New or used?

It was part of the open box sale so it's been used in store. I will try tightening the mounting screws when I get home.

The chassis bolt being loose can cause humming from improper ground. Not sure this is what you describe, but tighten them if needed. Also make sure the input jacks 1/2" nuts are tight to the chassis , this is your guitars ground point to the amp. What shop did you buy this from? If you need additional help contact Don in the repairs department Monday.

The chassis bolts didn't seem loose but I gave them a tweak anyway. Same with the input jack nuts. Now seems to be perfect but I'll keep on checking over the next few days as it was fine yesterday morning too. I bought it from Peach Guitars in Colchester UK. I've had it for a couple of months but it's been sitting in the bottom of my son's wardrobe as the days slowly counted down to my birthday last Monday. Peach have always been great so hopefully they will sort it out if the problem continues. Thanks again, Colin.

Hey colin...glad to hear...if theres a problem with moisture...besure to invest in some of those desicant packs...they will help...think about investing in some deoxit for cleaning jacks, ect too

As DRZ said, it is good to check the input jack nuts. I had an issue with an intermittent hiss with my MAZ 8. The nuts seemed to be tight but I loosened them a turn, shifted the jacks around a little and then re-tightened the nuts and I have not had an issue since. So I guess they were not making adequate contact. That is something I've had to do to most of my amps over the years and I always do when refurbing vintage amps. It's not a quality issue. It has to do with corrosion between dissimilar metals.

Update. It's school holidays here so I've been at home with the kids today. Tried the amp almost hourly, different plug sockets, different guitars, different rooms and it was fine all day until around 5pm when the buzz returned! I tried, unsuccessfully, to film it on my mobile phone but my wife was out and it's tricky when you have a guitar around your neck. One further oddity was that most of the time, touching the switches made the buzz reduce significantly but another time it made no difference. Anyway, it's back to Peach Guitars in the morning!

Dude electronics don't work that way. If it broke it's broke, it doesn't know time of day. I believe you have some external source that is causing your problem , and the amp is fine. Something is kicking in to your house's power, or your cell phone , or some other external problem. Try your amp at a friends house or some other location.

I found out the hard way....NEVER put a cell phone on top of the amp! (or anywhere near it.)

I'm curious to hear what Peach has to say.
Amp noises will make you crazy.
My Maz 8 had a 'Floater' issue, where every once in a while I would get a crackling fuzz sound, thought it was a tube and chased it until I rolled them all.
Then I remembered that FX Loops need love, so I cleaned the send and receive jacks with Deoxit and my floater issue went away.
I will avoid any comments about the time factor, however, I looked up the UK TV Programing and it appears reruns of Rosanne are on at 5:00
That may explain the issue.

Well, I went around the house last night turning everything off, phones, iPad, appliances, the central heating pump, all to no avail. Then my wife turned the light off in the room below and guess what.....? So, duly embarrassed, I went to bed, safe in the knowledge that the best amp I've ever had works just fine. Thanks for the customer care and support. I'm off to buy Electronics for Dummies in the morning!

Possibly a bad ground or lack of a ground in the lighting circuit, but it has to be connected to the rest of the house via a hot leg or similar. Any ideas out there?

The light in question has a dimmer switch which may be the problem? I need to get one with an inductor choke and an interference capacitor according to Google.

Ah yes... the old noisy dimmer switch problem. Got one of those in my house. Luckily, I don't need those lights on while playing. Glad you found the problem. Cheers.

Sounds like a job for Tim Taylor and Tool Time.
