I have a 2001 Maz Jr 18 2x10 combo with Reverb. When I switch standby off there's a low frequency hum that rises in volume then drops, then rises again and then drops again leaving just a buzz. Anyone familiar with this issue?

Not specifically, but I'd suspect a tube. If you have a known good 12ax7 I'd start swapping in all positions to see if it subsides. If unsuccessful, I try with the power tuxes. If this is not the problem it may be a component going south as the amp is 15 yrs old.

I agree with Keith , most likely a tube starting to misbehave.

Tried pre-amp and output tubes and there was no change. Will hook it to a scope and try to isolate the issue. I may do the Reverb MOD to eliminate that buzz while I'm at it. I like it when I can't tell the amp is on until I play the guitar. Dead quiet.

maybe a filter cap. at that age, it might be time to change them anyway.
