I recently got a Z28 combo with a single 12" Greenback. Never had a Greenback before, and like the pairing. The Z28 is 22 "Dr.Z" watts, the Greenback is a 25 watt speaker. In the past, with the multitude of amps I've owned, I've never cut it that close before. Am I in any danger of the Z28 blowing up the Greenback? I do have a Brake Lite, and I do crank the amp a lot.

If you don't crank it or slam the amp with OD or fuzz, you should be OK. Celestion typically rates conservatively from what I've experienced. On the flip side, I've smoked a few Eminence speakers with my Z amps by cutting it close.
If you like the Greenback, you should try the ASW Crossroads. Greenback goodness that can handle up to 70 watts.

Ok. But it's the stock speaker. Why would Dr.Z put a speaker into a new amp powerful enough to blow it?

Ok. But it's the stock speaker. Why would Dr.Z put a speaker into a new amp powerful enough to blow it? Again, it shouldn't blow. Celestion rates the speaker based on the amp to pair it with. IE, Greenback is 25w and should be paired with 25w and under amps. The Gold is 50w, and should be paired with 50w and under amps. They fully understand that a 25w amp at full bore is going to put out more than 25w. The EMS puts out 50w, and comes with two Greenbacks. I had a 40w /13 amp that was measured to be putting out 60w at full tilt and still didn't smoke the two 25w Greenbacks I was running it through. Again, it mostly depends on the manufacturer. I wouldn't run a 25w Eminence speaker through a Z28...

Thanks. I dont have much experience with Celestions, but trust Dr.Z. I do plan to run it hard though, which is why I ask. Hard as in, 3-3-3 at times with a Fulltone Fat Boost3 pushing it further.

I like the old 20w geeenies. My all time fav. You won't have any issues with what you mentioned with the 25 watters. Turn it all the way up. Enjoy.
