The Maz 8 really liked getting dressed up, including the Celestion Cream Alnico. It sounds really nice with that speaker and looks a little more aggressive. New Attitude with the new set up. Not a bad line up. Someone needs Erika the Red!

It just struck me what a well thought out selection of amps you have there. I can't imagine any job that trio couldn't handle. Well I supose you don't have a great jazz amp in the bunch. Maybe the Therapy could handle that though. Your thoughts on that?

It just struck me what a well thought out selection of amps you have there. I can't imagine any job that trio couldn't handle. Well I supose you don't have a great jazz amp in the bunch. Maybe the Therapy could handle that though. Your thoughts on that? Z, Thank you, it is a nice collection, probably my nicest possessions besides a house. I have three more that I built that are not shown. They are very nice sounding amps as well and useful. They are in constant rotation with colleagues which is fun. As far a Jazz Amps, that was a discussion the other night. A buddy and I were digging the Remedy for response and articulation of jazz chords. What do you think makes a amp good for Jazz, I am not experienced enough to know the nuances of Jazz guitars and of course the amps.
Your response or others will be a further education in this rabbit hole tone quest.I have two more amps to build( this year), a hopped up single channel Deluxe Reverb, and my own remake of the SoHO 65 in about a 10 Watt engine. No takers on the Remedy, I took your advice and went low but I may have to change gears again and keep it. If it doesn't sell this weekend then I'll send it into the shop to install a MV and maybe a couple of components that I think might help the amp be just a little more forgiving for me. The Maz 8 is sounding better than ever, except I have to play with the reverb tank location again. I created some noise where I placed the tank. It seems to feel different playing a Head and a cab vs. a combo. The 8 is just rippin with the Celestion Cream!

To me a jazz amp has to have some warmth but still have good articulation so you can hear all of the notes in those complex chords. I have played some basic jazz with a Super Reverb because I remember seeing a photo of Wes Montgomery playing one. A friend of mine uses a Polytone. I'm thinking the Therapy would work with the mids dialed down and the right speaker. A Z-12 should get you close, or maybe an Eminence Canabis-Rex. A pair if you are going to use all of the amp's 35 watts. In an open backed cab of course. There are lots of good choices but I have experience with those two. Maybe a 12AY7 in V1 would help too. That would be the last thing I'd try though. The stock amp is probably clean enough.
As for your reverb tank, all of my heads that I've ever had that had reverb had the tanks mounted as far away from the chassis as possible. That includes a Fender Dual Showman Reverb, a Bandmaster Reverb, and my Dr. Z Jazz. Those chassis' are top mounted so the tanks were on the bottom. With your MAZ 8 I would try mounting it to the top panel as far away from the power x-former as possible. Keep the cables routed away from the PT also. If they are excessively long you might want to get some shorter ones with good shielding.
