Besides my Z-Lux I've got a Bad Cat Cub iii 40 head (EL34s) and now looking for a 1x12 cab. As a lazy sod I've chosen only two candidates: Dr Z 112 and a Marshall Astoria 112 (mainly for the looks...). An european store's got the Z cab with Creamback 65 and the Astoria's got Creamback 75.
If I'll have the Z cab i'll probably leave it with with the 65 speaker though someone recommend WGS ET65 as a better option. When it comes to Astoria I believe the 75 is more a hard rock speaker (?), so I guess I'll change it for Pete Anderson Signature Hempdog 12.
I'd just ask for your insights on the Z 112 cab compared to other 1x12s you've checked out. How articulate is it? How well does the cabinet resonate sound? How full, big, detailed the sound is with speaker you've got - especially with Celestion G12M 65 Creamback? I used to have that speaker in a Two Rock combo and the tone was somewhat dark. HOW DARK is the 65 in Z cab?
I've got a cover band playing rock & pop from 60s to 90s mainly. But also roots stuff, americana, blues, soul etc.

I have the G1265 in my Z 112. It's full and warm with just enough brightness. I know that the creamback 65 is slightly brighter. The 75 is brighter still. Get the z cab, I think you'll be happy.

I had the creamback 65 in a Z convertible cab. Love the cabinet, but the 65 to my ears had an edge I wanted to lose (YMMV). I put a z-12 in the cab and it is wonderful. To sum it up the Z cab is great. I've even had a WGS Blackhawk Alnico in it open back with great results. Right now with the Z-12 I'm closed back. Lots of versatility. I had walked away from 1x12 cabinets for years in favor of Doc's 2x10 in my Maz18. When I bought my Ghia I picked up my 2x10 convertible. Somewhere along the line I decided to give the 1x12 a shot. It's very satisfying. I go back and forth between 2x10 and 1x12 depending on my mood and my ears on any given day. And when I combine them oh my. you asked about the 1x12 and I love it with the Antidote, Ghia and Maz. Open or closed it sounds great.

I scored a used Z 112 last week. The first thing I tried was my swart ast (stock mv-25) w/ the Z cab open-back. No surprise they sounded very similar. Was thinner sounding so I put the panel on and closed 'er up. Was not A/Bing, as it takes about a minute to get the speaker changed 'cause it's hard to get to the jack on the swart. I couldn't really tell a difference in closed back except the cream had a hair more chime which I liked. I didn't really think I'd use the convertible feature but it did come in handy!
I then tried w/ it my Z-lux and it sounded kinda dull and lifeless (this surprised me). I prolly should have spent some time with eq and trying it open back again, but the Z-12 was so clearly a better speaker for that amp. I didn't try any of this w/ much distortion 'cause I don't really play that way, so factor that in and of course YMMV. I have a gold that came today, once I get that loaded in I'll try it w/ the Z-lux when I get a chance and report back if you're interested.
