I would like to sincerely thank everyone who offered help and suggestions in my quest to find the right Z amp. This is a wonderful community and i look forward to becoming a part of it. In the end, i went with my gut and picked up a Z-Wreck Silver set, as i was never able to get it's perfect sound out of my head. And it DOES sound awesome! Though i don't normally use pedals, i did buy a few Wampler's (Paisley Drive, Ego comp, Plexi-Drive Dlx) for late night/low volume jamming. So thanks again everyone! Crap. I have no 9 volts..... I'll be back =) Don Yikes, i didn't realize the pic was gonna be this big! Whoops!

Thanks everyone, you guys rock!
Have a question though...
The Wampler pedals i picked up for late night jamming are fun to goof with, but i'm not a pedal guy anymore, and thus not entirely sold on them. I really do prefer the sound of this amp as is. So, i was thinking of picking up a Dr. Z Airbrake, as the Brakelite i have doesn't do a whole lot.
How good is it really? Will it kill my tone just to get it to crunch & growl at lower bedroom levels? I know i'll lose some tone, i'm expecting that as i'm not pushing the amp or moving much air. But the volume at 2 o'clock on my Wreck makes me grin, snarl, strut, and crave red meat all at the same time!
I heard you can even use it for stage (does that make it an alternative to the half power mod?). I have the speed/comfort switch right now, and one day i might get the half power mod if i prefer one setting more than the other. Right now i like switching back and forth.
If i am to be doomed to use pedals at lower volumes, is it better to OD or Boost the Wreck?
Sorry for all the questions!
Btw... is it okay to put some casters on this cab? It appears to have plenty of bottom end on tap already, so i'm not too worried about losing some. (I have hardwood floors everywhere and i'd like that bit of laziness/luxury if possible)

While an unleashed Z Wreck is sort of "ultimate", the amp is fine attenuated. I prefer the Airbrake over the Brake Lite, for some reason. I know they shouldn't sound different when the same amount of attenuation is dialed in, but ...

Like Mike said, the AirBrake has more adjustments and can lower the volume to bedroom level if you need to. You will loose some presence when you get that low, but no one will be listening....and that's the point.
If you install casters you will loose some resale value.. Let your back make that decision.
Rock on!~

You're probably going to like the Wreck attenuated more than pedals. I have been using the Ted Weber ones and they work well for me. Years ago (before I had a Z or was a member here- 2006-ish?) one of the Steves we have some tests of normalized audio between loud and attenuated amps and they sounded astonishingly alike.
You might notice a little more compression with an attenuator, and that really isn't the designer's intent, but it is a wonderful sound, even with the attenuator. I think you'll like having "your sound" more than that of a stomp box.

You can get very quite , since your talking at home.. Also your pic looks like your cab has no rubber feet? Is it a 2x12 cab? Probably just camera angle! Nice amp!!

It does have feet, tho i'm probably going to throw some casters on it next week. I just mailed the Z Wreck head off to Dr Z. yesterday for the half-power mod. Going to have it set to comfort (Hard choice! I loved both settings, though i felt i would always pick the comfort). Can't wait to get it back! I'll grab an attenuator if i still need it then. Don

You may not need attenuation with the 1/2 power! Unless you are at home and need to be quite. Then you have to have it. Unless you use pedals for color. I found attenuation doesn’t work at home unless i use the Fryette or my Z Cure with the level control!!! Otherwise its still too loud.

My 2 cents: make a little "caster cart" that fits the cab's footprint instead of installing them in the cab - and when using an attenuator start with it clamped down to max and then click UP to the desired volume.
Turning up always sounds great; turning down always sounds disappointing.

Also, set you tone where you like it with more attenuation you plan on using - then clip it up to required level.

I think the Wreck was created for the stage. It isn't a bedroom amp. Unless your bedroom is huge, you don't live in an apartment AND you wear ear plugs. Even when you attenuate it, it is still loud at home. When I first got mine, I played it at home a lot. I would set the amp in the studio and then close the door so I could get away from the volume. In those situations I could just crank it and LOVE it.
I have found that if I want to sit in the studio with the amp cranked, I need my brake lite on 4. It sounds fine like that. Live however, is a different thing. I do use my brake lite live, anywhere from 1-2 clicks and sometimes not at all. I have toyed with the 1/2 power mod, but at this point I don't think that is something that I would need.

(I have hardwood floors everywhere and i'd like that bit of laziness/luxury if possible) the Zwreck (combo) is the only amp I regret selling and now I’m back on the hunt for another one. As for your question about the attenuator, the Brake Lite is what you need for use at home. I usually set mine on 2-3 clicks and volume just above 9:00 for phenomenal tone.

I'd build a little dolly before I actually put casters on that pretty cabinet. A piece of plywood painted black and 4 casters from Home Depot/Lowes wouldn't cost much at all.

Congrats!
That's a beautiful rig. I also have the Quantum Silver head that I run thru a Vox 2x12 loaded with Blues.
While I love the AirBrake the PS2 changed my direction regarding attenuators. One of the best gear choices Ive made to date. If you have the scratch I highly recommend it for any non master vol rig
Enjoy that GREAT amp!!!!
