I've been playing my MAZ 38SR with reverb for 10+ years now. It still sounds good to my ears, but I often wonder if it sounds as could as it possibly can. I live about three hours from the Dr. Z shop and have considered hauling it there to be overhauled by the men that built the darned thing. Has anyone here done this? If so, what's the procedure? How much does it cost? How long does it take? ...etc. Any input/advice will be, as always, greatly appreciated. Thanks, Bo.

I would contact the shop directly, email repairs@drzamps.com and they can answer all your questions.

I sent my 2004 Mazerati in a while back and I can assure you it was well worth it. They gave it a once over and replaced some filter caps. Their rates were very reasonable and the amp came back way better than it was before. I really liked the amp before but they made it like new. I guess any amp tech can work on your amp but the Z crew know your amp better than anyone so my first choice for repair today would still be them.

According to the Web site a full checkup (not including the cost of tubes if required) is $105.00. Bargain.

I've done it to a Remedy (purchased used) and 2 original MK1 Boogies. There's nothing like having the guys that built em give em a tune up. In the case of the Boog's, Mike Bedinelli himself went through both of them. He most likely wired the amps when they were new in the late 70's.
Totally worth it!

I take comfort in the fact that the people who built the amp also service the amp using the same parts. It would bug me if another company worked on any of my Z's and used whichever part they had on hand. Or if they fixed the amp and changed the circuit slightly without me knowing. I know the Z crew will fix it right and they know how the amp was built. Yeah shipping can be a little expensive but it is worth it for piece of mind.

I had a Maz38 that I thought sounded pretty good. I sold it and the guy who purchased it stated that it didn't sound as good as one he previously owned. Point is that our ears get accustomed to hearing certain sounds and I didn't even realize that maybe a tune up was needed - still sounded pretty good to me ! For that cost go for it.
