Does it sound good into a Z-28? I don't know much about this pedal but it keeps coming up every time for some reason. I'm interested in the Hot Cake because I know it sounds good with Vox voiced amps, I hope it sounds good also with a Z-28.

Had one awhile back. Don't have a distinct memory of it except that it was okay. Pretty typical low-mid gainer.

It gets pretty aggressive with the gain cranked. I'd call it a distortion more than a low-mid gain OD, to be honest. It does both clean boost and low-mid OD very good, that's for sure. With the gain maxed it's basically some sort of a fuzz. I'm not into heavy distortion that much but I like the complexity of the distortion especially at low gain settings, when cranked it sounds similar to a RAT but more defined and fatter. It's a very interesting pedal, not very common around here. EDIT: f**k it, I just ordered one. Still curious about your experience though!

ive owned 4 hotcakes in the past, always used them with a vox or vox voiced amp. sounded decent with those, but I would always sell and then think I regretted it and would buy another, I finally decided they were too fizzy for me and sold the last one and never got another. they only sound well with a certain type of amp. My guess is it would sound like poo with a Z 28 considering thats somewhat fender voiced, and the hot cake sounded like crap with fender voiced amps to my ears. pick one up and give it a shot, if you dont like it theyre an easy sell

It sounds good into my Z-28. If you don't like the sound of it, you can still use it to goose your amp.
