I know this is probably a question for Don in repairs, but I've sort of been bugging him a lot lately, so I thought I would start here. And I assume the answer to the below question is "no", but thought I'd at least ask.
Bottom Line (short version):
Is there are way to change the output impedances coming out of the RX Jr head? Specifically, could some internal components be swapped for different values to change my 4 ohm output to a 16ohm output? This would give me 8 and 16 ohm outputs instead of the stock 4 and 8 ohms. I have no use for a 4 ohm output in my current rig, but could really use a 16 ohm out. I guess another scenario would be to double both outputs, so 4 becomes 8, and 8 becomes 16. More or less the same thing, but would be two different strategies I would think.
Back story/full details:
I recently picked up a M12 head and RX Jr Head. Both amazing. I will likely only keep one, though I would love to keep both. If I had to choose right now, I'd say the RX Jr wins out, but it does have one quirk that I would like to see if its even possible to change/alter....only has 4 and 8 ohm outputs, not a 16ohm output.
I have been running the amps through my 2x12 Avatar cab (Blue/G12H30). It's two 16 ohm speakers wired in parallel at 8 ohms, somewhat atypical but that's how Avatar did it when I purchased about 8 years ago. I've been wanting recently to mod my cab so I can split the speakers to run two, independent 16 ohm speakers. This would not only allow me to run stereo, but would also allow me to just run one speaker if stage noise becomes an issue. Would like to run the Z through the blue, and my other amp through the G12H30. Could only do this with the M12 though because it has the 16 ohm output. RX Jr does not.
I know the easy answer is to buy another guitar cabinet or live with just a one amp setup, but would love to be able to split the cabinet for flexibility down the road.
Any amp techies out there???
