Look for the MAZ 8 hiding beside the piano. Purple mojo light too 😉

prspastor, you realize that is a Z Plus with a MAZ 8 front panel. The art work is done on the new panel, but it takes longer to have a new panel made then it takes me to deign, test and build a new amp. That sounded pretty good to me.

Congrats Doc, the amp sounds real good. It was also very fun to see Joe having so much fun performing. Was a fun video to watch on several levels Todd

Yes indeed, congrats Doc Z on the new amp! I didn't know about the new amp with the MAZ 8 faceplate until Doc Ice told me in this thread. I had not caught your announcement about the performance. That's interesting that it takes longer for your panel maker to design and print new panels than it does for you to design, test, and build a new amp. I have to say, I think you are the most prolific amp designer out there in the handmade/boutique world, and I bet you outpace some larger manufacturers as well.
I sure wish that the new Z amp was switched with the Fender for more airtime.
Looking forward to seeing you next summer. I still love my Route 66 (remember that story?), my Zverb, and my MAZ 8. Play and perform with them all the time!

That was super fun! Interesting on the Z-plus in disguise I like the diversity in his band. The young woman on rhythm guitar was solid!

I wonder what the Princeton Reverb was being used for. I'm going to make a guess that he is using it for delays, etc.

I wonder how close the Z-Plus and the Maz 8 are in tone at levels that would not show the power difference, or can you hear the dual tubes...or put another way, how close are the fundamental tones? Can I get Z-Plus satisfaction at lower output levels?

The front end of both amps are essentially the same, so the base preamp sound to start with is also essentially the same. At least to me. Where you hear the difference is in what the power amp section does with that base. The upper mid chimey character of the EL84 vs the lower mid sweetness and enhanced low end of the 6V6. Then you get the added bonus of kicking in the second 6V6 for more volume, thickness and robustness (is that a word?). The feel of both amps was pretty much the same for me. Similar to the Maz 18 reverb also. Again because of sharing the same front end. Can they be made to sound similar utilizing the controls? Can't say.

I suspect if there wasn't a significant difference then Doc wouldn't be building another amp. It's not like he doesn't have enough to do with all the different models he has already.
