Hi Folks,
First time poster here. I am shopping around for a new amp and am considering the Carmen Ghia as well as the Maz 18. I'm playing rock and blues on a Baja tele. I have played a few Maz's but not had the chance to try a Ghia, the simplicity of it appeals to me. What is the brightness of the Ghia compared to the Maz? I know that can vary depending speaker selection and other things. One Maz head I played with a 1x12 cab containing a Greenback seemed really bright to me. Maybe I didnt spend enough time dialing in the tone. A local music also has a 2x10 Maz combo which sounds great and has an attenuator installed. At $1300 I am tempted to go in there with cash and see if they will come down in price a bit. But I would really like to try a Ghia first to see if it is for me. If anyone out there in the area has one drop me a message!
thanks
Anton

The ghia is a little more Marshally than the Maz. If the amp seems bright, you need to control it with the tone knob on the guitar. I've had two Maz Jrs....and one Ghia. All great amps. But my tastes went towards the Ghia. And in general, the Maz can be a little louder. The tone knob on the amp is more of a mid sweep. Not completely, but more than a person would think. More than the tone knob on some kind of music player.
And welcome to the forum!

Never tried a Maz 18, but the CG is my go to amp for dirty stuff.

I'm in the PDX area......Vernonia......BUT no Ghia anymore. I've got a Cure if you'd like to try that out. The Giza is definitely more U.K. than USA ....and Cure more USA than U.K..
THE Ghia eats P90's up and spits them out in a wonderful way. Sounds distinct with each guitar but my favorite was. LP with P90's.
Loved the Ghia....it is my soul amp. Two knobs are freeing .... made me a much better player and more in touch with my guitar knobs. If I was more than a home player the Ghia would be my #1 choice for a unique tone.....the Cure for more USA flavor leaning.

Thanks Ill keep that in mind. I think I am leaning more towards something like the Ghia or Maz though.
Any opinions on a Ghia head and cab vs the combo? The combo is certainly more appealing from a grab and go standpoint.

If you play clubs, I highly recommend the 1x10 Ghia combo. I had mine with a 10" gold. Fantastic combo. I only sold it because I don't gig anymore.
