Turn the light down. Turn the amp around, and remove rear panel to see the output tubes.. Turn on amp. Then reach around and turn off Stand-by. Pay attention to the 5881's , look for one who's plate is turning red. Replace that 5881.
Sounds like you have one bad 5881, which is running away , pulling excessive currant and blowing a fuse. Install the 6V6's and if fuse holds, then a bad 5881 is top suspect.

Doc--there are two tubes that get red on both the 5881's and the 6v6's--they are in positions 2 and 4 from the input tubes. Fuse did not blow when put 6v6's back in but two of those tubes are red also in the same slots that the 5881's were red in. Amp has not sounded right for a while to me. Sounds bassy and a bit distorted even at moderate volume. The 5881's blew three fuses. The 6v6 do not blow the fuse, but as I said two of them glow redder than the other two. The redness seems to go down the sides of the tubes that turn redder than the other two. Do you think I need to send it in for a look. Thank so much for your response. Jester

Doc--here is a pic of the tubes--it does not matter which tubes I put in there, these two positions always look like this. ( )
