Hello everyone, (New to the forum) About a year ago I picked up a G&L ASAT Bluesboy from my dealer. I first heard it through a Max Jr at his shop and I've wanted a Maz ever since. I was finally able to place the order yesterday. I ordered a Maz JR 1-12 non reverb and the dealer suggested the Celestion Blue upgrade which I added. What can I expect out of the Blue vz. the stock G-12??

Celestion Blues have a very distinctive sound. They are loud & pretty efficient, but aren't designed to handle a ton of power. They are usually rated at 15-20 watts, tops. I think it's a good match for the MAZ Jr, provided you don't run the amp full tilt. The Blues have a certain chime, and get fat & compressed as the volume is increased. The G12H30 will have more headroom and tighter low end. Bolder, more punch- but still a fairly dark speaker. If you are into the Celestion Blue sound, most will tell you that it can't be beat. My only gripe is that they are really expensive, given that they have "their sound" and not much else. The MAZ Jr is rated at 18 watts, but a lot of folks tend to believe that they are a bit under rated. Maybe more like 22-23 watts. Just be careful not to dime the amp continuously, or you'll probably be needing a re-cone before too long. Other options (if you have to have that sound) are some of the new offereings from Eminence and the venerable Weber Blue Dog. Weber's Blue is his version of the Celestion, but the cool part is that you can get it in 15, 30, or 50 watt versions.

Jayson, Thanks for the reply. Fat is what I'm after. I don't need a lot of clean headroom. What I want, and think I can get with this amp, is a fat sustaining OD tone without any "hair" on the notes. Ideally, the lead tone on the first Storyville CD. When I heard the Maz in the shop it sounded great and my dealer (can we discuss them by name?) suggested that the Blue will give me more of what I heard in his shop.
