I got a Bass gig recently and went into my favourite L&M shop to grab a GK MB112 amp. It's an acoustic duo so that amp is perfect. As I walked to the Bass section my eyes were drawn to a stunning shade of LPB. There she was.... 2014 Fender Custom Shop Proto Precision Bass in LPB....stunning. Picker her up and plugged into the GK......damn. One of the finest Bass Guitar Tones I've ever had under my fingers filled the air. She's excuisite, players like a dream. She has a TV Jones Bass Filtertron style pickup and 51 styling. Absolutely incredible. Needless to say,I walked out with both of them. Gigged the rig Friday and it was heaven.

I got to know Bob Gallien of GK. I built his production facility in Stockton, CA, rough town. He had gone on to build a facility in China to build boards and such. His story of getting started in the amp business is classic. Late 60's, Stanford Electronics Senior with a hi wattage guitar amp that no one has seen or heard before. A young guitarist named Carlos tried one and had to have one. He then turned on his friend Jerry. Neither one of them stuck with GK but early on they were both playing a prototype GK and his products took off, later focusing on Bass Amps only. I recently bought the MB200 Bass Amp and it is really nice, I think that's what they put into the 112 combo.

I'm really digging the Bass gig. It's a nice change of pace. It's a nice reminder of what makes a crowd move. If the Bass player is locked in and grooving just right, the dance floor will fill. Do it wrong, and it's a catastrophe!! It's such a vital part of a band. Even something as simple as going from quarter notes to eights at the right moment can have an ENOURMOUS effect on the song,at the right time. That Bass though....damn. Just this amazing sounding conduit,y'know?? There's nothing in the way, nothing it won't respond to. Paired with that little GK combo,it's just paradise. Dial in a tone somewhere between Flea's BSSM Wal sound and Bob Babbit's flatwound benchmark and away ya go. It's not flashy,it's just a study of groove. I don't have to rip, or even step on a pedal. Hell, I don't even have to take a Pick!!

Sounds like you hung with the band just fine as far as power and volume.
