I have a roland cube that I am going to use at church. It has a 1/4" line out in the back. Would it be better to use a trs to xlr male to go to the board, or use a direct box. It seems to me the trs to xlr male cord would be easier, but I have never used this method before. What are the pros and cons of each method? Thanks for any advice---Jester

It depends. If the Roland's 1/4" line out is balanced, you can just go to a TRS to XLR adapter and be done with it. It does seem strange that Roland would put in a balanced line out without an XLR connector, though. Pros/Cons: A balanced XLR to FOH is going to be quieter and better than an unbalanced line would be. The only way to be sure would be to try it both ways.

It won't sound like a mic'd speaker unless there is some kind of compensated EQ added. Even then it won't be the same, only closer.

Thanks for the replies--I got a direct box and used that--works just fine. One more piece of equipment to forget on Sunday mornings--
