I just purchased Mark (Basement Enthusiast's) blonde and tan Z-28 head (thanks Mark). Supposed to be here on Monday. Looking forward to owning another Z-28. It's always been my favorite Z amp model. I was just waiting around until a blonde one became available. I have a Gold 1x12 cab ready and waiting for the test drive.

Congrats! If I am correct, that amp was once owned by me (despite the impression that nothing ever leaves the man cave). Great amp!

That amp was in my house for a while too. Great sounding Z28!

Jag, I can't imagine why anyone would think that no Zs leave your man cave.

The only reason I moved it along was that I have a Z-28 4x10 combo

That Z28 has some serious mojo, after I worked out the deal to sell it to Mark (I had a new Remedy inbound forcing the sale) I plugged in the amp while Mark was on his way to my house. That amp sounded so good I nearly called Mark to cancel the deal!

Congrats on getting another Z-28! I've had mine for about 5 years strong and it's been my only amp. Tons of mojo and extremely pedal friendly. I use it for p&w, but my goodness can it rock!

The Z-28 arrived today. The Gold speaker is in the (half occupied) pine 2x12 cab. The tolex on the Z is almost a perfect match with the 62 Bassman. Looks right at home. Now begins the fun process of getting reacquainted with this amp. Starting with remembering not to reach around the back to find the power and standby switches . Thanks for a great transaction Mark.

I love all the various shades of blonde & brown in that photo. (Oh, yeah, I respect the black[face] too!)

Initial report after a couple of days. Caveat - It's been a little over 2.5 years since I sold my first Z-28 and I played that one almost exclusively through US voiced speakers instead of the Gold. I play 99% clean with no pedals except reverb\trem. I had forgotten how articulate this amp is. Everything comes through the speaker (for better or worse). The voicing of different guitars, pickups, selector switch positions, all seems magnified in a good way. Not as warm as my old Fenders but that is likely the Gold. Have not yet tried playing the Z through the old speakers in any of the Fender combos yet. Lenny and Riviera Paradise were a joy with a strat with great harmonics. Pipeline through the bridge of my Nocaster was a lot of fun. Using widely different knob positions with different guitars. Having had this amp,and other Zs before makes a lot of difference in feeling free to experiment with "weird" knob settings. Still catch myself reaching around the back for the power and standby switches.

I love my z-28 with the c-gold. Tried a blue with the z-28 and was not my cup of tea. Also like the z-28 with a celestion 12H, but everyone hears things differently.

Still getting used to the Z-28 + Gold. It sounds great but is different from what I've been playing through for quite a while. That could be a good thing for variety. I have a line on a used Emi RW&B that I may try with it, either in parallel with the Gold or by itself. No regrets about getting the amp though. It's everything I remember.

I did the deal on the CL RW&B this AM and installed it in my 2x12 cab along with the Gold. In anticipation of this, I cobbled together a parallel Y speaker cord yesterday so I was able to try each speaker individually and in parallel. The two speakers together sound better than either one individually. The chime of the Gold still comes through but there is something in the overall that is enhanced by adding the RW&B to the mix. Maybe it's just the 2x12 vs 1x12 thing. I'm liking it so far. As I get more time with it, I'll mess more with the RW&B by itself as it has not really had much of a fair trial compared to all of the time I've spent with the Gold. If I come up with anything new or useful, I'll post again.

I thought I'd update for the speaker search. Turns out that the RW&B was just what I was looking for in my Brown Princeton so the Z-28 is now running through the 2x12 with the Gold and a 1963 40 watt Oxford. I think it's the Oxford that the Doc had Eminence model his 12" Z speaker on. Anyway, it does the job of filling\mellowing out the Gold but the old Oxford is a bit overshadowed by the Gold. The RW&B was a better match. I will probably keep my eyes open for another used RW&B so I can store the vintage Oxford for when I sell the 62 blonde bassman it came with. The Gold plus RW&B was a really nice combination with the Z-28.
edited to add that the Oxford \ Gold combo is growing on me as I find amp knob positions that work. I'll probably still jump on a used RW&B if one pops up so I can store the oldie.

Sorry, I don't have one. Can't help with the Z-28 GAS either as I have had it and the only cure I know of is to get one. Good luck.

I'm sorry for your dog, man. Enjoy your Z-28, it's a great amp. I use mine mostly with a 12'' WGS G12C/S to get that classic Fender clean sound, but it sounds good also with my 10'' Gold. I usually choose the gold when I need my Z-28 a little bit dirtier.

Thanks. He was a great dog and lived a long span for a Ridgeback (13). This was my second time around with the Z-28 and I'm having a good time with it.

Both my dogs are mix, I rescued myself. Both have sad stories but now they have the love they deserve. I think we should start a thread about dog lovers here.

Not to side track an already over extended NAD thread, kudos to you for supporting rescue Teleprankster. We have been a foster home with Ridgeback rescue for over 30 years now. It's nice when a sad tale has a happy ending. Now, back to our regularly scheduled programming.

OK, so I'm bringing this thread back into the light again because, after searching, I didn't find anyone posting about pairing a Gold with a Cannabis Rex. I was waiting for another used RW&B because I liked the Gold\RW&B pairing with the Z-28 until the 62 Princeton claimed the RW&B. I found a great deal on a basically new C Rex on CL a couple of days ago. I liked the reviews so I brought it home and installed it with the Gold. I have had a lot of speaker combos in this cab over the years and this is the biggest and warmest it has ever sounded. The C Rex is a much better match with the Gold than the 63 Oxford, which was overpowered by the Gold. Still not sure whether I like the Gold\C Rex better than the Gold\RW&B but the RW&B is staying in the Princeton. The Gold\C Rex combo is wonderful for jazz and blues but I'm not sure if it will be surf friendly yet. More knob tweaking needed. I'd be interested in hearing from anyone who has tried the Gold\C Rex pairing before in case I missed a thread in my search. The 63 Oxford can now go into storage. Should I name the cab Acapulco Gold?

I tried that as well in a 2 x 12, I only did it for a short time, I think I sold the Gold. But the ide was to mellow out the projection at lower volumes. It worked quite well for that purpose.

I had 3 Z28's two heads and a 4X10 combo! One of the Doc's best creations in my humble opinion! I will always miss that sound!
