Anybody try the 6N14N tubes in a DB4? I only had a matched pair of them, so I shipped them off when I sold my Maz 18. Interested to hear people's thoughts??? Doc???

Frank, I have been installing 6N14N's in the new DB 4's. Sound great, especially when driven a bit. I have had too many JJ EL84 failures of late, most the glass cracks , some like cut with a glass cutter. JJ EL 84's still used on the Ghia's, MAZ 38's, and M12's. But the list is getting smaller unless JJ fixes there act.

Thanks, Doc!
I bought mine new, but it has a 4/16 build date and the JJ's, so I got one of the early ones. I'm going to hit up Perry and get a quad of 6N14N's. They have to sound killer!

Man, I just have to give a shout out to Perry and his 6N14N tubes.
The quad I had from him lasted 6 months (and they were abused, believe me). I put the quad of JJ's back in the DB4 while I'm awaiting some new glass and those SOB's red plated in 30 minutes!
The gain was off the charts, then, the sputtering started. Immediately went to standby. First two tubes glowing like the end of a cigarette.
Maybe I should get three quads...

The latest matched quad have been in there for a couple months now with no issues so far. I don't have a lot of faith in them anymore though. Sounds like I should try to get some 6N14N's. There were issues with the JJ 6V6's in my Z-Lux too.

Yup, the top one looks just like the one I pulled out of my Db4.

Hello...The Russian power tubes are a bit softer, darker/warmer, more midrange, and a bit more harmonic. They are borderline too dark. However single notes really sing with these. Any recommendations for tubes that sit in between? Not super dark, but not overly aggressive and bright? pcb assembly canada
