I finally got my Maz 38 head! I was actually waiting on it at the guitar shop when it was delivered lol. I played it about 30 minutes then took it to a gig.
First what people say about this amp and volume is true, it's freaking loud! But I bought it for that it's the big gig amp Monza for smaller gigs. I was able to dial in my tone quickly and easily, mainly because I've read most threads on the amp on here and knew what to expect. I played my strat with dimarzio vintage blues pups which is the darkest of my strats. Had treble around 11 o'clock, bass at 10, mids 2, and cut around 9, volume at noon master around 7:30. Even with the master volume that low through my 2x12 it was loud.
I play mainly a southern rock heavy set and it was a good setup for almost dirty cleans. I would hit it with a bb preamp plus and an OCD for varying levels of dirt and had a boss reverb which I just left on all night. I loved it. My other guitar player commented it was some of the best tone I have had.
It's surprising me honestly. I'm usually a darker voiced amp guy but I find myself playing brighter with this amp as the treble is so pleasing it doesn't have the harshness of a lot of amps. I won't be surprised if I up the treble control the next gig. The bypass footswitch is perfect allows me just to add just a little bit to get a lead over the band without getting obnoxiously loud. I will admit I was getting too loud by the end of the night as I turned up a bit when the crowd thinned out near closing just to really hear it. damn it sounded great then.
I'm really happy with it and look forward to Saturday's gig with it. I do see a 1x12 cab in my near future for it. Make it more compact on stage and help lower volume a smidge too.
Thanks Doc for a great amp!

Good report! My 38 is ten years old now and it's still my go to amp for gigging.

I know the Maz is capable of getting loud but I also think it has to do with how well the amp cuts through the mix.
