Wow! That's about the closest thing I've ever heard to the opening riff in Premier Guitar's "Rig Rundown" youtube series. Always thought that riff sounded wicked--now I know how to get that tone!!

As I recall there was still more gain on tap - I'm thinking it was set at 2 o'clock. Also some other goodies gave it more or less gain depending on the settings. I'm not going to give away Doc's secrets but suffice to say it'll do everything most people will need to do it. Thanks Mike. I was hoping you'd say 10 o' clock Honest question here, though......... What is the fundamental difference between this amp and the SRZ that was discontinued?

I don't know how many watts.
This is different than the SRZ because there are more controls to play with. I don't know how much Doc wants shared. But there was some nice surprises.
Doc, can we spill the beans or not yet??

Thanks Doc!!
It had a high low switch on the input that would take you from clean to mean. Or clean to huge smile.
The tone controls remind me of the Therapy, lots of control and little adjustments made a nice difference. Its fun to play and have the Doc turn the knobs coaxing more tone out of his amps.
The gain knob was pretty linear, the more you rolled it open the more gain came along with it. We didn't open it up past 2 o'clock.
There was another switch, can't recall what it was called, that was very subtle but changes the feel of the attack of the amp.
The really big thing to me was the switch on the back that switched between tube rectifier and solid state rectifier!!!!!!
Want more sag? Switch to tube, want it tighter? Switch to solid state. Super cool
Output tubes? You guessed it, a pair of EL34's. Glorious roar!!
The cab was a 2 x12 closed back. Same cab as the 1x15.

The other switch was labeled touch - didn't make much difference in tone - more in the feel

Guys I appreciate the love the new EMS is getting from this small peak inside the Z lab. I wish I had more info and stats to share, but I'm developing the package. I'm still grooming the circuits to optimize the tone, and need a few more preproduction builds before I finalize and release it. Basically is is a very smooth rich sounding, improved JCM 800 design with a touch more gain. It also has a wonderful 1987 Small box 50 sound, great for pedals and turn it up PURE Marshall tone, JMP-50. In addition to a 5U4 tube rectifier for a cool spin on a Vintage very early Fender sounding/feeling tweed design, ala JTM-50.
It is a pretty cool package , with a DRAKE style 50 watt Output Transformer, to give it that authoritative Marshall drive. I want to have the whole package complete prior to release, web page, manual, review , and excellent demo's. Joe Walsh is still being a bit illusive on his gear selection for his up and coming arena based tour with Petty. Typical Joe. But really guys I have had some of worlds top guitarists use my stuff on the road, and it puts a feather in my cap, but gear MUST stand on it's own if it is to be successful. And this is the time were small tweaks can make or break a release.
I'm still toying with the speaker cab, As you know that is the last adjustment to be made after the amp is COMPLETE. I started with a closed back Backline 2X12 cab loaded with two Creambacks wired in series to 16 ohm. The demo's you heard were a G-12H & Creamback combination, not sure if that will be the final but it sure opened up the clean sound, and didn't effect the gained up tone.
More work to do, but I must say it gets better sounding everyday.

Lol....I'm not even going to ask anymore questions I know! It is such a killer sounding amp though, inquiring minds want to know! I am already thinking "I can use my Zlux for all my cleanish tones AND then set up the EMS next to it for all the rock stuff."

Will it come with a loop? NOPE I'm curious at to why no loop. I see the SS has a nice tube buffered loop and it's a clean amp, where most guys run effects in front anyway. But the hotter M style amp where most guys would run time based effects in the loop, gets no loop. Just an honest question. Either way it sounds great. Waiting for a longer clip....

I agree, this is the one aspect that I don't get with a hotter cascaded-style amp.

Will be interesting to see how it compares to similar "boutique" amps in terms of price, features, etc.

Z Sorry Doc...I should have noted I see a direct competitor for this type of amp as being the Fargen Olde 800 mkII. They seem to be in a similar space.

The Friedman Small Box is in the same ballpark, too, though it's a two-channel amp with a loop. Comes in both head and 1x12 combo.

Divided by 13 AMW 39. And it has a loop. AMW 39 @ $2700.00 for the head Friedman Small Box @ $2799.00 for the head Fargan Olde 800 Mk II @ $2400.00 for the head DR.Z EMS as a head or head and 2x12 set price to be determined.
