This one was in a place we have played for years, so the sound of the room is well known to me. Once the amp was in position -- and powered on -- I didn't touch it the rest of the evening. It was perfect. As I've said in another post, "the Level control will be your new best friend." Now that I've had the amp for a few weeks, I've got it decently dialed in for my main guitar and pedals. I changed nothing for the show, except to bring Level up to gig volume from home practice volume. Of course, the amp does sound better at gig volume I'll add a picture of settings after I unload my gear. (I'm not big on doing that at 1:30 am other than bringing guitars back into the house. Car with amp, pedalboard, stands and all the darn PA gear is in the garage.) Here are the settings used with my Collings 290, which is a dual P90 guitar. I work volume, tone and pickup selection quite a bit. The Level at noon was what I used for the gig. I think Z is going to continue to experience high demand for this amp, especially at his introductory pricing.

Do you get more headroom cranking the volume and blending the master or visa versa? Thanks

Do you get more headroom cranking the volume and blending the master or visa versa? Thanks If you're thinking of clean headroom, I would get more with V backed down. But let me try to explain what I set out to achieve. This may get long and will probably not be especially helpful, but here goes: I want to have the amp set to a base that I will not need to adjust during the gig. What I will adjust are turning my pedals on and off and working the controls on my guitar. So those elements (pedals and guitar) play a large role in how I'm setting the amp. I want my guitar straight in to the amp to have some dirt/grit/mild OD when gtr volume controls are maxed, but I also want the guitar to clean up if I back down to, say 7-8 (out of 10). Reason: it's usually pretty dim on stage and I can't see the numbers on the controls, so needing only relatively small amounts of knob movement to transition tones helps. Once I've got the amp set up, then I'll adjust the gain pedals to perform as I want them to regarding amount of OD and distortion, level increase and so forth. Then those settings also are "frozen." Master higher adds girth and a bit of volume. There was "enough" at the shown setting. That said, I wouldn't hesitate to turn the master to full on. If need be, I could then back off Level to control output volume. Once I got to the settings shown, it was "good enough" to go for the gig, meaning it actually sounded really good. I'll probably change everything for the next gig but this gives me a documented "this works" reference point. Added: The settings likely would end up different with a different guitar.

Hey Mike, I value your opinion and expertise. Quick question, do you think it would be possible to have one Cure amp set clean and one set dirty for gigs? I am just wondering if the clean amp would be loud enough for small to mid-sized venues. For reference, I am running a Carr Rambler for my cleans and Maz 18 NR Studio for my dirty sounds. I am very happy with my current set up, but I like the idea of two Cure amps for the size, weight, same speaker in both amps, and obviously how cool that would look on stage..lol. Also, how well does it take overdrive pedals?
Any other Cure owners, please feel free to chime in. Look forward to hearing your opinions.

Forgot to mention that I play a Les Paul about 80% of the time and a Tele or Strat about 20% of the time.

My Cure was leaning clean, and was clean with the gtr vol backed down, at the settings in the pic. As you can see, there was more to be had from the Master and Level, so louder clean (likely) was there. Crank Volume up high and it will be plenty gainy, and you should have no problem balancing it to whatever level you want relative to the clean Cure. Very cool idea.

Go for it! I was thinking the same thing as I was playing mine this eve! Our sanctuary is about 60x60 and I had more than enough clean/edge of break up volume! My /13 may be on the market soon to fund a second cure??? I've not got to try an LP through mine yet but my 79 Strat and Tele sound amazing with the amp overdriven! And with the level you could match your volumes very easily!

Please let me know your thoughts after plugging in the LP. Cheers!

I would love to have a Z-LUX and will probably own one in the future. That being said, most of our gigs are in small venues around town, pubs, etc. I am confident the good Doctor's 15 watt Cure will suit my needs. In fact, I just ordered two yesterday at my local dealer (Lauzon Music-great family-owned business). Happy to support Doc and his great staff. I will post pics of my first gig with the two Cure amps on stage. Can't wait!!! Another question...what do you think of running both amps at the same time for mid-sized venues? Kinda like a 2x12 combo??

Kinda like a 2x12 combo?? I ALWAYS run two Z amps, one for clean and one for the overdrive tones. I have a Framptone switcher on my pedalboard (highly recommended) that I use to switch between amps, AND run them both at the same time. The blending of the two is simply amazing to the ear. This works well even for smaller venues, as you just set the volume according to the room or gig. Congratulations on the purchase of your CURE. Doc sprinkles magic on every amp that leaves his shop. Don Totally with you there Don. I always did the same. I used the Radial Headbone for my switching setup. Nothing like it to have the best of both amps available from a button on the floor.
